Dark Green Metallic cars!!

That's an interesting pic because I'm painting my Valiant that color and it has the body trim with the red stripe in the middle.
 
PPG has the correct paint codes but only if it is single stage enamel. If you want to paint your car with a base/clear, PPG's color will be off. They cross reference it by computer to the closest match and that is what they will mix. I had to take a couple original doors and polish the paint in the jam and have Color Masters computer match it so I could get a base/clear code to paint my car the original color. PPG cross referenced mine to a 79 Toyota color which was a couple shades darker and not enough metallic, it looked close but not original. Mine is correct now but the shade changes depending on what lighting it is under. Dupont was the same way, their version of my color was from a mid 80's Jag. I was told they all do this because they don't want to spend the money to refigure the single stage codes to base/clear. Ever since I found this out I started looking closely at the cars in shows and if you know what you are looking at you can see that there is a lot of them that are off.

A good paint store will give you a sample mix so you can make sure it is what you want before you have them mix it. I'm going through this right now on my 68 Dart which is I think FF1 green.
 
The paint store I dealt with couldn't even cross the '69 green PPG code over and I had no sample.

I've found some stores don't have current info and are just too lazy to make the phone call to get it. PPG, Dupont and Sherwood Williams can get info on the codes, they will be cross referenced but they can get them.

Dupont has the correct codes for single stage urathane and some base/clear but they won't have the correct name, it turns out Dupont sold there rights to the old Mopar colors to Kenworth back in the late 80's or early 90's. When I bought the paint for my Charger back in 97 it was called industrial yellow instead of Sunfire, when I asked the owner of the store about it , he told me how Dupont sold them to Kenworth.

GG1 w/tan interior...that is the color scheme I want for my '69 Valiant (the exterior is white for now...)
 
I had a '68 Dart GT that was white exterior with the GG1/pearl white interior color scheme. Absolutely 'Popped' in the sun...best color combo inside that I have ever owned
 
Glasurit still carries all the older paint codes. They still have solvent based paint too, atleast in my area. I got the paint for my car no problem thru the BASF dealer here, when I gave them my paint code they had it in there system. The local DuPont store was another story.. And I couldn't get a quality solvent basecoat thru them either.

Glasurit is very high quality paint, and pricey but you get what you pay for especially when it comes to materials.

Good to know- I know the Valiant will be base coat / clear coat, so it won't be exactly like 1968-1969, but the car isn't going to be done stock anyways. As long as it is that super dark, super metallic green I will be perfectly happy
 
My 76000 mile 66 Barracuda is GG1 green. There is no metallic in it and it looks black in the shadows. Considering 69 metallic green instead. I want to keep everything original, 273 and 4 speed have been rebuilt, no rips or cracks in the seats, dash or wood grain wheel, carpet has faded but could be re-dyed back to black. Driver side fender, door and deck lid have to be replaced and quarters need work. I just don't care for the color. Comments welcome on what you would do.
 
Its funny I have a 68 340 S that was originaly Dark green. Then it was repainted a light metalic green. Not a good paint job. I never liked the Dark green in my younger years. I thought it was to common and boring. Now I wish my car was the original color. Unfortunatly it was completly jammed the light green. Since its not numbers and missing the fender tag I get to do what ever I like. But I .like that 68 GTS.
 
My dads truck, I know its not a mopar, but the green looks great. Its 70 corvette fathom green.
 
Nice truck. One of my dad's buddies has a '69 427, 4-speed Corvette that color- bought it new (ordered it) and I think it has maybe 30K miles. I know as soon as he got the car, he trailered it off to California to a driving school to learn how to handle it. Guess it worked, it has never been wrecked or painted
 
Thanks V, He's owned it since he was 15. Started out as a farm truck, straight 6/three
on the tree. Now its full chasis big block but still streetable.
