Drag Truck Part 2 "blackmark redemption"

You put a smaller crank pulley on and then all of a sudden your alternator isn't keeping up with its demands...
only at idle and I can get a small aluminum crank pulley for 65 bucks. Not needed now, read below

  • More good news!! I was able to find a crank and water pump pulley that will work.
  • More good news!! 3 more pounds lost - right off the crank!! The pulley was 3 pounds lighter than the one that was on there. Now, I just need the right size belt.
  • More good news!! I put the front drivers side tire on, and lost another 10 pounds
:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: 3 thumbs up!

That must have been a lot of work putting that tire on if you lost 10 pounds. LOL..

We've taken a lot of weight out of the truck, and it's still dieting. Manual steering is installed, and got lucky with the pulleys. I'm feeling really good about it so far. It's been very easy to work on, and we've found things quicker than I ever expected.

I'll be interested to see what gears you end up with as I don't think your twelves are going to happen with the current ones..

I'm being picky... LOL. I can use basically use any rear end from any full size Dodge truck from 1965 -2003... LOL. Of course the 2nd gen ram would be wider stance. I can also use a Dakota/Durango rear end, or a car 8.75 also. In fact, a B-body rear end has the exact same perches as the truck. It just narrower after the leaf perch. Just need a offset rim. So tons of options

Removing and re welding your perches yourself is where the $89 Harbor Freight welder comes in.. I snapped my 489 case gears before anything happened to my Harbor Freight welds on the perches...

I won't need to change any perches. If I use a car, it will be a 8.75 B-body I already have. The trucks including Dakota's are a drop in.

Thanks! I just learned something. I was wanting to put my axle on top of my springs, so I can just use one of my b body axles.

wait a second... Flip it over? LOL...
the car rear end sits on top the leafs, trucks underneath. You lower it about 4-5" by going to a car rear end. Then, you can use slapper bars :D

I haven't driven the Drag Truck since the diet started, but I'm confident that the next race against my Ram, the 318 2bbl will beat it. :)
