So I recently got a 67 Dart project and as always my driveway garage set up is a big pain in the butt. My driveway is fairly flat until you get close to the garage then it goes up hill a bit. Moving a "roller" in and out with one person is impossible to be honest. What do you guys think about building some really heavy duty wood ramps or platform for the car to roll out of the garage on to keep it level and easy for one person to push in and out on?? Anybody else do this? I've considered mounting a winch in the garage to pull it back but the garage is really old and the floor has massive cracks in it so not sure either would be strong enough to hold the car weight. Thoughts??

I like the idea as long as you can control the end so it cant roll off, also on the sides. If it is tall enough on good weather days it can be a lift of sorts allowing access under the car.

That's what I was thinking. Building some sides on the ramps so it can't go off the side and then maybe a wheel stop or built in chalk at the end.

I saw a small winch anchored to the floor in a garage. Thought it was someone here on the forum.
Need to bore a 4” hole and set good steel anchor in the ground beneath the slab. Or chip it out bigger and make a good size pier poured below the floor.

A couple steel channels your wheels fit in would work for ramps. Just make sure they cant tip.

Seen it done and it works...... I have also seen a manual Winch used with metal anchored to the floor.... Just be sure to have something behind the rear wheels in case things go south.....

Yup,a 4x4 tied to bumper so it drags behind. Then if something goes bad its already there.

Look what i found.

Four nuts and its ready to go.
Pulls a full size pickup onto hoist with ease. It was -30 and things dont roll so easy.

Looks cool just not sure I have anything strong enough to bolt the winch to.

All my trailers have winches to pull a car in. They have remote controls so you sit in the car while pulling it in. It don't take much to roll a car that rolls free. Like a previous poster had mentioned. Drill a hole through the concrete floor and drive a long piece of steel down to floor level with a hole in the top for a clevis. You don't have to mount the winch just secure it for a pull. Clevis should be at floor level so you don't need a heavy piece of steel.

To bad the floor is so cracked. Four 1/2 inch threaded inserts would easily hold a winch as long as you made a bigger foot print for under it.. When we use a tugger to pull super long runs of heavy guage wire it holds easy. 300 plus feet of copper (4 wires) 500kcmil or 750kcmil through conduit easily out weighs a car that can roll freely.

I have had a winch in my garage floor for years.
Just anchor it.
A small atv one is all that is needed, tractor supply has them cheap.

My drive slants down from the garage where it would make it impossible to roll a non running car out and get it back in. I picked up a couple of heavy 15ft c channels and welded a stop on the end. Then built a couple of supports separate to set the ends on. They sit the C channels level. I can roll the car out on them then easily roll it back in. The c channels just slide back in under the car when I am done with them.

Do your walls have threaded anchors into the footing? Maybe you can work off those for a mount source.

Got any pictures of your set up?

It doesn't. The garage is really old and a one car set up. The floor has DEEP cracks in it all the way across so I don't really want to mount anything to the floor or wall. I'm considering taking some heavy planks and building a wheel ramp that just keeps the car level in and out of the garage so I can roll it out and back in myself. Someday I hope to tear it down and build a new garage!

I used a small portable winch for pulling my car back in. I was in a rental & didn't want big holes in the floor so I used 3 tap-cons to hold the winch. A rolling car on wheels is not a big load. I use that same winch to load it onto rental trailers. I double the cable back & use the pulley when going up a trailer to half the load.

well, that website set off my antivirus protection

how bout this...why not mount the winch to the bumper of the car, put a pulley on the wall and lessen the load that way?

I have been dealing with the same problem while my car was without power.
I used a couple of 2x10’s and stacks of bricks so I could roll the car out. Not the whole car but about 6 ft out. I’ll see if I have a pic when I get home.
Kinda hokey but it worked

I took a power steering pulley and redheaded it to floor in back of one shop then ran a wrench cable doubled back. I would hook one end to car and other to backhoe or truck and pull in up grade into shop. I can't find picture but it worked well for me to move car in by myself

Pics as promised.
This is not the way I would recommend, but it worked. A complete structure built of wood might have been a better idea. But when you need to move the car in and out and have no one around to help you have to be resourceful.

Awesome! That's what I'm considering doing only will build entirely out of wood with some heavy stuff. Thanks for the pictures! Mine will be coming out nose first.
