Enclosed Trailer Questions

-
Avoid 15" wheels. Long tongue assists in mobility.

You did well!! I was just looking at United trailers. Yours would be in the $30-$34k range easily.

My only question is the escape door height still seems too high to be able to open the driver door on the car. Driver door will clear the fender but, by measurement, not the lower edge of the wall with the escape door open. My avatar car would clear but it sits up higher due to CalTracs and slicks. But my all stock 71 Demon 340 is too low - it would not clear. Wondering what people do for a car like this. Maybe have a board under tires where car sits or ??

Someone posted their fix in this earlier. And yes it would require boards something that I refused to do with a new trailer. If I get too old to climb out the window I’ll winch it in with my remote.

For the avatar car, no issue. But for the 71, no way climbing out!! WAY too much $$'s and work in paint to think of doing that. I'm sure others have nicer/better than mine but still, you wouldn't climb on or get on this car's paint. Likely it will be one to winch in only.

I was just curious if others had run into a similar issue with the escape door framing height. Now if you want to spend even MORE, you can get the trailer with the removable inner fender and the escape door that flips up and basically goes down to floor level. Cat's meow for sure!!

Keep in mind your talking about a guy that only has an open trailer bought USED in 1986!! Always kept inside, still in as good a shape as when I bought it. Actually, better shape! Getting an enclosed trailer as I'm not okay putting the 71 at risk on an open trailer with no front stone shield or any other protection. Nor do I want to risk the grill or whatnot on the front of my 69 Charger. The 72 avatar? No worries!!

DemonX check out post #45. Not the best pic but it should get the idea across

Wow I just looked back at my order slip from January 2017. Man did those prices go up. You guys looking to order would cry to see what a custom ordered 26 foot trailer with 8 bolt wheels sold for.

I could not believe it when I bought the trailer, but my driver side door clears the escape door ledge. I did not have to stack wood or do anything to change it. I cannot open it 100% all the way, but I can open it far enough to get out. Car sits pretty low to the ground being a 4 link car and a coil over front suspension with upper and lower a arms with rack and pinion. Pittsburghracer and I see each other a lot at the track. Hi John.

Good morning Sir. Let’s go racing.

Nice trailer. I always viewed the escape door as another point of entry for the thieves. My trailer is wide enough that I can get in and out of my cars even with a cage.

I definitely agree with that point. Very true. I almost didn’t get that door, but my dad and good friend talked me into it. If I had steel doors and roll down windows, would have been less inclined to get the extra door.

I just traded my 2020 Fast Cargo 8.5 X 24 enclosed trailer in on a 2023 Covered Wagon 8.5 X 24. The Fast Cargo trailer was pretty cheaply made and after 3 seasons of use I could see that issues were about to raise their ugly heads. Good news is I got more for it in trade than what I paid for it in April 2020. Got the new Covered Wagon from the same dealer ( This is actually the 4th trailer I've bought from them). The Covered Wagon has an extended tongue, polycore siding, escape door, 5K axles, 16" wheels and the tongue and frame are painted with rugged bed liner paint. Came with 2 fairly bright LED strip lights in the overhead, but they are turned on by a door controlled switch, in other words you have to open the front side door to turn on the lights, much like the switch that opens and closes the entry steps on a motorhome. I'm not wild about that set up so I'm going to change it to a regular on/off switch, and also add some additional LED strip lights to the interior. Interior is unfinished which is what I wanted as I like to finish them myself. New trailer tows a lot smoother with far less vibration than what I got with the cheap Fast Cargo trailer. New trailer was $12,999 but with the $6K trade allowance bottom line was $7K. The Covered Wagon seems to be a much better quality trailer but I still need to see how it tows and holds up when loaded.

We had a pretty good local hookup on these trailers and like I said most of us bought just at the right time. I took the long trip up by myself on my birthday to pick it up when it was ready.

I have always wanted a 24' forever when I only had an open race trailer. Got a deal on my 28' and would never go any smaller then a 28' now. Ultimately, I would like to have a 32' tri axle eventually. Still have the open also for quick easy local trips for other vehicles.

I went from this, to this, and ordered the silver one. Much happier.

13 grand in california gets you a half-way-decent aluminum OPEN trailer.

I bought an Interstate 24' a couple of years ago and tow it with a '95 D3500 std cab dually w/the Cummins and NV4500. The truck doesn't hardly wince at 10K+ behind it and it tows straight and true, but I also have have the equalizer bars and ajustable reciever hitch so one can adjust tongue height, which make a difference as well. You could get away with a HD 3/4T but you're askin' for disaster with a lighter truck! The trailer tows very well but I'm going back to an open 18-20ft trailer myself as I don't like not being able to see clearly around me...just my personal feelings. Lots of folks love them and it is something you have to get used to...no doubt! Oh yeah, it's also 7' tall inside and was great for moving to Tennessee.

My friend that I posted pictures of her 340 Demon on this website sold her dead husband’s 28 footer this week. She was asking 14000.00 and took 12000.00

^^^^ PR....And you forgot to call me or ???

Sorry. I listed her husbands dragster and parts but she has someone unfamiliar with racing quoting prices to her. Facebook marketplace gets the most activity but it has to be priced fairly as the first 2-3 days gets all the activity. She was high on the trailer before and her price came down and trailer prices went crazy.
