Newbie question here. What's a decent/fair price to pay for a complete 340? I'm looking for one to put in my Demon, but have no idea what is good/bad pricewise. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You may find putting a 360 in may be cheeper. A complete 340 can range from about $800 needing a complete rebuild to ???? depending on what has been done ti it. A comrable 360 can be picked up for about $200 requiring a rebuild and it too can get expensive depending on what has been done to it. Once in the car the only way to tell the difference is to check block numbers and a well trained eye may notice the hamonic balancer being slightly different. Other than that most cant tell the difference.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I sold my '70 complete carb to pan 340 for $400, with about 5000 miles on the rebuild. All it needed was #8 cylinder sleeved, the guy who built it forgot to put a spiral lock in the wrist pin and it chewed up the cylinder wall. So, when I built my stroker, I sold this engine to a local guy so he could put it in his duster, which his young son is very involved in. He was able to reuse the everything and the only machine shop cost he had I believe was to sleeve the one cylinder. After it was all said and done and he had it put back together I think he had a total of $1000 for a very good running 340. This will probably make ya sick but I sold a set of the 340 high performance manifolds, the ones I see on ebay for several hundreds of dollars, for I believe $40. I just cant see ripping off a fellow mopar guy who can use what I have lying around.

Hopefully phisphud, you will find one reasonably priced

WOW! That was cheap.

I would think about $800 for a 340 with x heads, no manifolds or carb, needing a rebuild. For a rebuilt/low mileage unit, I would say $2-3k. Just remember, by the time you get a block bored, heads rebuilt, new pistons, rings and bearings, etc. you can spend $2k easily.

The prices these guys are quoting you are steals. If you can buy one for that you need to jump on it. My 318 build was $4000 but you aint got no 340 to stay with it. Yeh... it's got a 318......come on and get you a piece of it.
Small Block

I bought my 340 just over a year ago. It is a 69 340 that was machined and bored .030. It had everything but the carb, and it was sitting all apart on pallets. Zero miles on it after the rebuild cost me $3000.00 CAN. It was worth it in my opinion. They are a great little engine!

It's been my experience that 340's, or any performance engine for that matter, will command more $'s either parted out, or complete and running in something. It will aso bring more $'s if it's someone's #'s matching motor to their car or a warranty replacement.
