I am lucky I can do paint work 9 month out of the year, and probably more depending how much i want to pay for heat.

Anytime someone mentions "gunmetal" as people have for this color, I always think of this commercial:

LOL, great commercial Chris, never seen it before. My 67 Coronet was Gunmetal grey, looked more like a light metalflake black. Loved that color and car.
 
First off, the engine color looks great- I might have to go with plan "B" with my engine color selection.
Second, I'm shocked that Californian's have propane heaters.
 
Hi Guys, thank you for the comments. Last weekend after cleaning gma's gutters and getting some yard work done I stopped by Dad's to pick up the tranny.

He had it rebuilt for me when I was in high school (>10 years ago). It has been sitting around collecting dust. The seals on each side are supple and were tapped off to prevent debris from entering. Also with the tranny was a new or rebuilt torque converter. I do not know any specs on it, the numbers on it I tried googleing but no luck.

I was excited to see it was spray painted silver; a quick rinse, paint stripper and ready for business...right?

Turns out under the spray paint I find grease! So more cleaning to go. BTW I am painting the tranny to match the engine. Also I ordered a mopar performance deep pan with drain plug (not pictured) to replace the stock one.

I spent some time on my daily driver so all I got done was the new tranny pan installed. Extra quart capacity and a drain plug!

Hi all- I got a bunch of new hardware, mostly allen head stuff for the engine bay. After scuffing and de-greasing each washer, lock washer, and bolt I put down some epoxy primer on the transmission, dip stick tube and handle, fuel pump, water neck, 90 degree oil filter adapter and of course the new hardware.

Next up is painting these pieces to match to motor. I found a run on the back side of the intake. Which wouldn't be so bad on the back blocked by the distributor. But I didn't like it- so I cut it and sanded it; I will touch up when I paint the other stuff.

amazing build.....I love what you did with the fender bolts. Great Idea I wish I did that
 
That engine looks GREAT! I too like the silver. I almost went silver but went with black instead.

thank you very much. I'm sure your car will sell sell before you go. I have enjoyed watching your build over the last couple years, and love the renderings too. Best of luck on your "trip" and I will be looking forward to seeing an update from ya once in a while.

Thanks Abodybomber some times I wonder if I should just slam it together and go. I don't know what the right way is but at least this way it will resemble my vision of the car.


Today I installed the new harmonic balancer. First I a made a quick bracket to prevent the crank from moving on me. lined up the keyway and installed using the installation tool.

The new balancer is much deeper than the original one, so I will need a new bolt. Since I am doing custom brackets for ac and alternator, the extra depth gives me a little extra working room.

I will probably need to get a bolt like this

Any progress or updates ?


Turns out even I can succumb to the pressures of life. We are house hunting, baby-making (due in October) and work is full tilt with the departures of the two people that separate me from the CEO.

I am having my somewhat annual beer-and-pizza-bribe-friends-to-work-on-my-car party in a couple weeks. Goal is to mate engine and transmission with front suspension and get it in the car.

The engine install party was a success! My dad built a front end lifter which worked out very well. My dad, brothers and a couple friends (pictured) came out to give me a hand, bs and drink some beer. You can see with the lifter my brother was easily able to lift the front end up off the jack stands. here are a few pics:

Bloody marys....you ever have a Caesar?? Same but instead of tomato juice, you use Clamato juice(clam and tomato juice) Believe me it tastes better than it sounds! Awesome!

What the chances of getting dad to do up a step by step diagram of the lift?? And the engine install?? Im curious if it would work with my vert??

you know I have not tried one with clamato, but I have had bloody marys in San Francisco with shrimps and clams dropped in there pretty tasty, probably similar.

Dad built the lifter in spare time with scrap parts but i can take some close ups and measurements if you'd like. The yellow bars are much longer than needed, but dad had a design idea to make the lifter also be a tow bar. It is crazy how easy it was to install the motor this way. Most of my help was leaving so I didn't get as much bolted on there as I could have before installing, but there was plenty of room.

I snapped a stud for the headers trying to remove it in favor of the allen head stainless bolts to match the rest of the engine. So I may need to remove the headers which isn't that big of a deal at this stage.

I was nervous about the charcoal metallic against the orange pearl metallic, but I am happy with how the colors play off of each other.
 
Getting the front end together

I made new foam anti-vibe for the brake shields using some foam I received as packaging. I painted the bright blue monroes to match a little better. Brakes are 73up conversion, all new or refurb parts. I cannot wait to get wheels on here (about an hour or so of work left, pass caliper/brakes and torsion bars)

Finally, it is a roller again!

I need to align the suspension and bolt in the fender to check true clearance, but this will get me around the garage for now.
