Father-Son 1974 Duster Project

How did you mount the tach in the dash, I think those style only came with a column mount.

Today's amusement will be provided by dicking around on top of the trash can with:
An old dash pad, JB Weld, lacquer thinner, paper towels, blue tape, marine sealant, rage body filler,

sand paper of all varieties, spray on bed liner, acrylic upholstery paint and of course patience.....

Come on Daddy you need a new pad. After you spend all that time and money on those products, you are half way to a new pad.

Maybe so,

I had to try TF I had all the stuff laying around and no coin for a new pad. IMHO my repairs look good! I put the texture on them with a paper towel when the primer was wet...

I think it's going to make it....

SEM satin canyon black on that pad to help nock down the glare and tie in with the murdered dash accents. :)

The front bumper looks great.
And thanks for the tip on mounting the tach.

Bumpers came out good. Going to put the front on without the inner structure to tuck it in more.

Need to make some angle iron supports for the rear to eliminate the inner structure there. That rear inner structure pictured below is frigging heavy!

The cars original dash pad had splits in the corners a few cracks here and there. I patched it up with chewing gum, spit and a bunch of other crap I had laying around. It's not perfect but I can use it for now....

Nice work. Didn't I see you polishing those bumpers? Dash pad....you are going to get that sucker redone? What color is the grill? Argent?

I'm going to use the pad as it is. It looks acceptable. I may check to see if there is anyone local who can do it. The pad and the grille are done in Rustoleum matt black. I should have a Rustoleum corporate sponsorship....

Yeah....they should send me a sticker or something too! I had mine recovered for a little over 100 in a satin by the local upholstery shop. They even redid the underpad and smoothed it out.

Only reason I was suggesting getting that pad right is that getting it back out is a pain in the nut sack. Invariably some piece of 40+ year old plastic breaks

Like any other guy, I just had to stick it in...

Just being held in with a few drywall screws. I think is going to look great...

I agree. Black is back. Look at the new cars. I only have one suggestion. Do the parking lamps have a housing? If not I would shoot them a shiny silver or chrome to reflect the bulb better. Blacking out the entire Demon grill.

Great progress Bob. If you go ahead with eliminating the inner back bumper, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands. Also need clips and hardware that held it on the absorbers. Did you get a heater hose? I have an extra piece about 22 inches from DMT

It's yours Keith, not sure if I still have the clips.
I found another FABO guy who had a defroster hose.

Last job of the weekend was to get a couple coats of paint on the bumper bolts.

I'm now concocting ideas to suspend the rear bumper in place with wood from the license plate holder so I can crawl under and cut up some angle to fab up some brackets off the frame mounts for the old bumper absorbers....

Same here, be interested in seeing what you come up with for brackets. I posted a thread awhile ago, but didn't get much feed back. Was thinking cutting the rebar to use the original mounts, a couple pieces of flat plate and a section of square tube to go between.
