I'm like a kid before Christmas! This restoration has been long and drawn out because of circumstances beyond my control. My enthusiasm was beginning to fade. Now it is soon time to gear up for assembly.
 
Wow, Kevin. Been a while since I checked on your thread. Sorry about your set backs. Glad your car is getting in paint, your doing a fantastic job. Larry
 
Thanks Larry. I hope to be doing updates regularly until the car is completed. It has been a very good week for the Duster. Mike got the rest of the body painted today! I think that everything that should be painted FE5 has been sprayed. I'm going to have Mike install the fuel tank, fuel lines and brake lines on the car before he sprays the body shutz. The rest of the assembly will be up to me.

Looks terrific Kevin, I know how long its been for you to get to this point so congrats that you've hung in there. We were both 16 in 79 when we got our cars, I hadn't driven mine since 1985 but I can tell you it was amazing when I pulled away from my driveway this summer and out for my first cruise in 33 years and heads were turning and your going to have the same experience so enjoy the the reassembly process its a bunch of work but rewarding. Danny
 
Well done, definitely exciting times. Brings back memories to when mine rolled out of the spray booth 11 years ago!

Plz forgive me Kevin, because I like you so much, I just can't stand not throwing you under the bus. He and his lovely wife Nora just left my shop, so, he won't see this post for at least 5 hours. He is going away from orange peel and allowing me to slick his paint, I think Nora gets credit for that since I've been beating him about his head and shoulders for weeks without success. It would be such a shame to hide all the work on perfect body lines with orange peel.

We have a bunch of wet sanding and buffing to do over the next week. I'm going to install his rear end and shutz the front/rear wells for him so his car can go directly to his garage from my shop. I have a full restoration shop and have done nothing but my own cars over the years, I have way to many, it's really neat helping others. Anyone need a body done? We have time, however, be prepared to pay since we do one at a time spending 60 hours a week until it's done.

I would love to post pictures of Kevin's car, it's his car and I'm sure he will keep everyone posted. If all goes well, he should be driving it this spring.
 
It kind of makes me sad that he doesn't get it the way he envisioned it. To your credit, Mike, the orange peel must be incredibly hard to achieve. All of the factors that would go into creating that look have many, many variables on any given day. If it came out too much in this case, could it be toned down a little without making it all go away? I like slick paint too, but if we were all the same it would be a boring world....so that's what makes me sad that Kevin gave in finally. Just my thoughts, and they are not meant to be critical of anyone, or anyone's ideas.
 
Nora and I just got back from our trip out to Mike's shop in Ohio. I have to say that I have bee very headstrong about trying to achieve an OEM orange peel effect on my car. I understand that achieving that type of finish using today's products and techniques is easier said than done. Mike gave me an opportunity to look orange peel and smoooooth on the rear quarter panel of the Duster. My wife and I both agreed that the slick finish looked best. He and Kenny have the Duster's body so straight it ain't funny. I feel very comfortable with my decision to move ahead in this direction.
I can't say enough about how happy I am about the proges and the quality of the work that Mike and Kenny have done on my car. I would highly recommend their shop for anybody looking to have work done on their Mopar. Pics to follow after the Penn State game.
 
I like it Kevin!! The way it looks,it shouldn't be much longer till it's back home in your garage.
 
Thanks John. Nora and I had a nice road trip out to Litchfield, OH. Once they started work on my car, Mike and Kenny have really done a lot in a short time. Mike's shop is amazing! I dropped off my rear suspension for them to install before transporting it back to my house. It won't be long before she's back home.

Since I've opened the shop to customers, I'm kinda picky who I do work for, Nora and Kevin are exactly the kind of people I love to share our talents with. Not sure how you scored Nora Kevin, hug and kiss her everyday.
 
Mike, I'm still not sure how I scored Nora. I'm sure that there had to be divine intervention. I'm a very lucky man and I know it.
 
I spoke to Mike yesterday It sounds like the Duster should be coming back to my home the end of next week! Can't wait to start wrenching on her again. Here's a pic of the roof before polish.
