Finished! Brutal 'Cuda

-
So I need to get some time on the engine before it gets cold and rainy here in the northwest. Got the original plates out, carefully removed the stack of old tabs to reveal the first tab (or 2nd if they scraped off the 68 tab, which it looks like it), so cool! I am planning on running the front plate because it is in better condition. I will save the back plate with the 1969 tabs on it (wish it was the 68!)

Getting an order ready for all the weatherstripping, got to give a shout out to Jim at DMT (Detroit muscle technologies). He has been great with helping me figure out everything I need.

Lots of progress! Car is almost done, will post pics... and yes it's fast and fun!

Went with 67 door panels, really like the pattern. Also put in charcoal loop carpet from acc.

Installed aftermarket tach, not exactly like factory but not too bad. Put a led for a shift light in tach face! Worked great until summit rpm activated switch failed. Getting a replacement....

Installed ford contour fans with a Davies Craig controller. They work great! There's a few threads here on fabo... I believe Goldduster did one.
I realize that there may be questions on how I installed the tach, etc... if anyone wants more info on something I can write up how I did it.

I’ll go for that as well as an additional picture of the engine from the other side!

I like your dash. I could use some help on taking my ‘67’s dash out.... helpful hint?
(I confess, I haven’t looked around yet....)

Figure this will help someone out, I installed a cheap Bosch (part#fst 7901 3 3/8") for a tach in the rally dash.
I apologize that I didn't document this better, I just got it done faster than I could take pics!
Ok,
once your dash is out start by taking the center out of the dash by unscrewing the screws that hold it in. Then remove the lense, I used a soldering iron to soften the plastic tabs that hold the 'blank' gauge lens in place.
(Ignore the gas gauge testing I was doing here...)

Then I took the back of the tachometer apart by unscrewing the screws that held the cup on. I measured the thickness of the factory blank plastic ring and cut the same amount off the Bosch tach. This left the back of the Bosch cup to be used for the install. The black plastic ring in picture is the unused piece.

Here is the back of the Bosch tach cup with the wires being fed through. I used a hack saw to make the cuts and sanded the rough edges, it needs to be level.

Cut the blank gauge face off to allow the new tach face to take its place. Remember the white plastic sides of the factory gauge are the same measurement as the black plastic you cut off from the new tach, you are basically replacing the new tach cup sides (cylinder) with the factory plastic cup or cylinder. The new tach will go into the old factory plastic piece as shown.

The circuits fit nicely over the back edge of the factory ring, and the face of the new gauge is tight against the front edge. Use some super glue gel to hold it all in place.

Now the back of the Bosch tach that was cut off is slid over the wires and will fit over the circuits.

You can super glue gel this in place once everything is done, as well as use the 2 tach screws that originally held it together. The entire assembly can be removed with the small factory screws just like stock. I put enough glue to hold it together but not so much that I couldn't take it apart.
I used a black sharpie to 'paint' over the Bosch lettering. I also painted the needle orange to match the factory gauges (this pic was before I painted it)

The tach works great and while it isn't a perfect match it looks pretty good. I installed a led shift light in the bottom of face as seen in a previous post. It uses a rpm activated switch from Summit.
Hope this helps someone out!

Well I haven’t updated here for a long time. Car is pretty much done (are they ever really finished?!)
Went to a few shows, fun being the only a body Barracuda most times.

Now we are turning our at attention to my sons 67 dart. Yep he was the little kid in the pics when I first got the Barracuda!
