The 60ft. is horrible, Are those SS tires more of a street tire? If they are, you may need a DR or a slick, i would think with that HP you should be around 7.0s @ 98+, If its not hooking up, you'll never get any weight transfer, so you need the car to bite & not skate, a good sticky tire will make the car react more like it should.

The tires are very similar to M/T Dot. I dropped air pressure from 20 psi down to 14 psi. It helped but you seen my 60'. Any suggestions on size and brand of slick ?
Thanks

I'd run a 28", either MT or Hoosier would work

the first thing I would do is get rid of those shocks.and put a set of stock shocks off a 60s/70s station wagon.check the pinon angel.4to6 degres down on the pinon.befor buying tires get the car to work.I never had any luck with a snuber.but sum pepeol do..just trying to help Artie

Have you got a front sway bar? If so, pitch it.

I've got the Rancho RS9000x that Cal-tracs sells. My average 60' is 1.59-1.61. However, I also have the cal-tracs. I'm making just a little more than 300rwhp (I'm guessing)

I'd get a real slick or an ET Street. It helps mitigate when the track prep isn't so hot.

damn nice loking hotrod you have. are the rear shocks adjustable? if you're doing a burn out to the point of smoking the tires you may want to drive around the water and just haze them to clean them off. i think you'll find a better bite then.

I did have a front sway bar. I pulled it before I went to the track. The pinion angle is correct. The rear shocks are set on #1 the lightest setting. I tried hazeing the tires to just clean them off & tryed heating them up. The track starter said they just scraped the tracked, but most others were still hooking fine. How critical is the front suspension height ? What if the clamps on S.S. springs are pretty snug to tight ?

My 416 also put out 520h.p...but 60's were in the low 1.40's and ran 6.91 in the 1/8..my rear set up was nothing more then a set of used xhd springs, pinion snubber and cheap $25 summit drag shocks 50/50 same shocks in the front also but set at 90/10..:-D:-D..do you need to run slicks??...if not i'd get a pair of m/t drag radials,i sold my slicks after seeing how well the drag radials hooked..

With that 28" tall tire and 3.91 gears it will act like 3.23's or so no?

4.30-4.56 gears, get it to hook and Increase your launch RPM...........then look out!:angry7:

I thought about that, My intensions are to primarily run the 1/4 mile. Can I calculate my top end RPM's with a 4.30 gear

You need tires for sure, One thing you need to rembember is that most people don't understand how a race conveerter works there is what they call stall speed that is what the converter will lockup at when you flash it now the lower the rpm you launch the car at the higher the converter will stall and the car will leave the hardest, the higher you launch the car the softer it will leave as the converter will not flash as high and will not hit the tires as hard, so your car will leave harder from an idle, This is the complete oppisite to what most would think but true, I put my car on the bumper I know how it works I had a 1967 Valiant with a 340, W2's and a 904 with 5:13's and ran 6.67 @ 102 with a 1.40 sixty foot 3200 lb. w / driver , You need gears and tires have a great day

As I mentioned in a PM,your gonna have to play with the car at launch.Everybodys setup is different, your just gonna have to try different rpm,s at launch til you find it,s sweet spot.Good luck!

I launched at 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800 with my best 60' @ 1.956 . We'll get there!

You said you have your rear shocks set at the #1 lowest setting, you should try at the middle setting and your fronts at the lowest setting. This way the front will pop up and the rear won,t squat as much. It,s all trial and error.

The rearend /suspension is gunna have to work to get it to hook.Lots of ways to accomplish this .The main goal is to get the rearend to plant the tires as it tries to lift the body .I have just wore out OE 6 cylinder springs and torsion bars on my Dart with OE wore out shocks .Im using slapper bars on mine with the snubbers preloaded slightly to get the lift on the body and its working. You might want to try out sum real slicks for the track sessions.Im using 26x8.5x15 M/T's on 7 inch wheels with 15 psi in them.I usually get high 1.5 60 foots with a best of 1.54 .BTW im launching at 3500 rpm on a transbrake with a mild 408 and a Powerglide.Heres a short vid of my Dart to see what your after with the suspension.Notice how it lifts the rear of the body as it plants the tires and bounces the frontend slightly shifting more weight to the rear tires.I have heard good and bad things about the S/S springs working ,but im pretty happy with the slapper bars and spongy springs on my car...

Calvert recommends setting 5 to start with for foot brake cars. 2 for transbrake cars.

Dont change your shocks, there fine. You need to try different settings but they will work. I dont think your launching at a high enough RPM. 1200,1400 OR 1600 isnt enough in my opinion. 2200-2500RPM would be more like it because you dont have enough gear in it to launch it. If you had 4.30's or 4.56's then 1600-1800 may be ok but you dont have those gears.

Any pics or vids of your duster???

Even with 3.91s, that engine should be making plenty of torque being a 416 cu to propell that car with ease, play with shock settings, if it still doesn't bite, put some real tires on it!!
