Hello all,

Whew! It's been a long time since I have posted anything here!
Here are some pictures of my Duster finally getting it's new front end bushings and disk brakes! The bushings are the PST poly and I added their sway bar which was interesting to get mounted. (They should have designed it to mount to the factory holes. The way they wanted you to mount it, it sat to low. I ended up having it mounted to the front of the A Frame.)

The disk brakes came out of a 71 Duster in the junk yard, original Kelsey Hayes! Luckily, the car had not been there long so the brake cylinders were still ok. The mechanic told me to change out the brake fluid every year and I should be fine.

For those of you that remember my "Sharktooth Grill Repair" post, it has not only been a while since I updated on that, but taken a while for me to get over what I had to do next. You see the liquid mask I used to cover the black fins did not completely protect them from the silver over spray. So after licking my wounds from the Sharktooth Grill for some time I am ready to begin again. I won't have to completely start over, just go through the painstaking task of carefully sanding and picking the silver flecks off of the fins and hand brushing them with some more black. I'm not going to re mask off all of the fins and teeth again! It should look better than most when it's done. :banghead:

Take care!

Hello all,

Dang, I did'nt mean to cause any "???", or X2, or X3 or .

I was only trying to give an update of my project. If anyone cared. :sad2:

I must have clicked on the "pole" option and was just wanting to get the info out there. It was the wee hours of the morning. My Bad. Sorry for any confusion...

In the words of Steve Martin... Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Meeeeee!!!!!

Twisted71,
Thanks for posting this. I love updates of projects, especially with photos.
I got these same strange comments "what are you asking?" when I have posted what I thought were helpful reports of work. People can always move on to another post and not diss, if they don't care.

If those calipers looked like that in the junkyard, you really lucked out. Are you out West? Feel free to tell us what you paid. The rotors used to cost a fortune, but Centric now makes them for $25 ea. What are you doing for master cylinder, booster, proportioning valve.

Thanks Bill,

The brakes did'nt quite look like that straight from the junk yard when I pulled them. I think I paid $34.99 for each side, complete assembly. The mechanic who helped me put everything together did a real nice job, media blasting the parts, painting them and installing the new bushings. I'm in the Denver area and we have a few yards that still have some good parts cars. This one though has an interesting story behind it. I was combing over Craigslist a few years ago trying to find the correct back seat for my car. When I bought it, it had a dodge dart back seat. Anyway,
I got the correct back seat from this guy who explained he had lost interest in the car he was working on and the back seat was all that was left.
It was actually a 1971 Duster like mine!
I asked where the car was and he said he sold it to the junk yard. :wack:
This particlular one is a pick-a-part type and they do not keep an inventory. Whats cool is you never know what you are gong to find. What sucks is that after the cars sit there for a few months they go to the crusher. It's a high volume outfit. I went to the yard and found out the car was still in the holding area, not yet processed. I called and stopped by the yard everyday to try to silver toung information from the owner. My persistance paid off and I learned when the car would be sent out to be parted. I took time off from work and got there at 4:30am to be sure that I was the first in line. Sure enough, I was and there were several other guys that showed up after me to wait for other cars.
The car ended up to be a bonanza! I not only got the disk brakes, I got the front fendors (1970-71 specific), seat belts, and a bunch of other stuff.

This car is a BLAST to drive! I can't wait till it's finished...
Since the front end work was completed, the stance of the car is just where I like it with a slight rake.
Rock On! :burnout:

O.K., then I vote for kelsey hayes disk brakes
because stopping is good!

I guess it's not a bad thing to use the KH setup..but if you ever need to replace the rotors, you will need to take out a loan to buy them. $$$$$

No longer true (see my post above). I bought 2 rotors and don't even have K-H brakes. I gave up on the full K-H setup since people ask outrageous prices for used, rusty parts, plus rebuilt calipers are $$$$ and who needs heavy iron. I have a long-range plan to mount the rotors on my drum hubs. I got Wilwood calipers off e-bay. I need a plate to mount the calipers and an adapter for the rotors. I think it will fit under my 14" wheels. If I only had CNC mill or lathe, but that is next.
