I have a 340 -11.1- 292/501 comp cam -holley strip dominator-Holley 750 carb. new.

I put a holley blue on my Duster (has fuel cell), with regulator. The problem I have is the car is still getting way too much fuel. The regulators I have and the Holley Blue are both used parts. It pegs the 15 lb. mark and when I was able to get the regulator to pull the PSI down to 4-7 lb., it still acted like it was getting too much fuel. Should I try getting a new regulator? or is this fuel pump too much for my car? or are the seats in my brand new Holley carb not working correctly?

Also, is placement of the regulator important? it is under the hood fairly close the carb, should I move it more toward the rear of the car? the regulator also starts spitting up with all that pressure, which makes me think that maybe the diaphram is no good.

Can anyone give me some tips on what i may be doing wrong? your help is greatly appreciated.

Should be just fine. Its pressure that floods carbs, not volume. Maybe your floats are too high, take the sight plugs out on the side of the bowls, fuel should be just below the hole--sometimes a bit higher but just below the holes will get you by for now. You could even get clear plugs but don't leave them in for a long time.

That cam is big, you may have a rough idle and need to work with the carb to get a fair idle.

I don't follow you, what do you mean spitting up, is it leaking?

yes, it leaks out of the top. there is a little indention underneath the adjustment nut. I think its time to ge a new fuel regulator.

Get a new regulator and go from there. Most new regulators are preset for 7 psi. Swap it out and recheck your float level.

Go with a return style regulator and run a return line to the tank if you want it to work the best. The 12-803 Holley regulator that comes with the blue pump is only rated at 9 psi max which is way under the rating of 14 psi that the blue pump puts out. If you ask me that's a screw up by Holley. I've had touble getting them to work right because the pump over powers them.

You need it close to the carb. As close as you can get it will work the best. Then adjust it for 6-7 psi. Then set your float levels like Dodgefreak said. Like he also said that's a real big cam. Meaning it won't have much idle vacuum and if the carb your running is stock it may have a power valve rated at 6.5 inches of vacuum which with the cam your running you'll never get and that'll make it run rich. You need a smaller power valve. Probably about a 3.5 inch.

I have used holley blue pumps and regulators for over 20 years without a problem. Try to replace the regulator, it sounds like your problem. The regulator will make a little buzzing/clicking sound when the pump is on and the engine is off. Check your float levels after you replace the regulator. I read a while back that when Bob Glidden ran his Pro Stock plymouth Arrow to the NHRA championship his fuel system consisted of a Holley blue pump. That's good enough for me.

Thanks for all the responses. I am replacing the regulator but in my looking closer at the carb. I found out that the front bowl of the carb on the float adjustment screw/nut has no threads. its just spinning in the hole. No damn wonder the float is smacking the top of the bowl--There is no way to even adjust it. i bought this carb new at Autozone and they told me they would make it good. It's a 3310S 750cfm. single metering block basic universal carb.

If you look at the pic. of the motor in the car the regulator has been out in front of the fuel pressure gauge. I need to take some more recent pics.

Fuel problem fixed. Thanks for everyones help. New carb. and regulator did the trick, the front bowl was messed up right out of the box brand new and the diaphram was gone on the regulator. I was able to do a honest cam break in today and she sounds incredible. I will put up a sound byte somehow by the end of the week. Thanks again, and I'm positive I am going to need some more help down the line.
