Thanks guys !! I did get an NOS looking original console Tach for car, although it didn't have one originally. Got it from one of my buddy vendors at Calisle last year. Has the correct mounting brackets and original sending unit with it. I just think they look cool![/QUOTE

Did you get the harness with the tach? If not I saw one on the Bay. Also, if you are running an MSD you'll either need to convert the tach to run with an electronic ignition or run the MSD tach adapter.

I did get an uncut harness with it. Not sure yet if it's everything I need to hook it to the existing harness though, since the car didn't have on from the factory. Got a Linky ??

Success !! Yesterday was the start up and break in of the new 383 in the GTS. It started right up after a few cranks, as I filled the carb bowls. No strange noises , good oil pressure @ 50lbs.
Only issue was a leaking fuel line clamp. So , shut it down after about a minute and fixed leak. Started back up and ran at 2000 rpms for 20 mins to break in cam. Temp gauge was inop . So I used infered heat detector gun on all the surfaces. Never found a temp over 190 on the engine or radiator. Exhaust temps at head stayed around 550 on each cylinder. I'm real happy with the way that all went. Will get back out there today after Church to mess with it some more. Got a scare though after several cool downs and start ups. I was reving engine when all of a sudden I got water flying (reason not to use anti freeze initially) everywhere. Quick , shut it down. Only to find out that a freeze plug in the front of the left cylinder head popped out. Easy, fix, easy to get to. Lucky Me. Might have to put heavier springs in the dist to keep advance from happening too soon. Checked to see that it goes in gear (new 727, I built). No problem there. Wanted to take it down the street in my neighborhood to check shifting. But it SNOWED most of the day yesterday. Now its 19deg outside. Maybe ride in a few days. :D:D

I detected an engine tap and assumed that one of the rockers needed adjustment, So I pulled the left valve cover. I could tell right away that some of the rockers on that side had run hot since they where blue. Immediately pulled the right side and found no fault. I disassembled the left shaft to find it galled and several rocker bores bad. The engine had already been broken in on initial start up, up at 2000rpms immediately. I think thats when it initially starved for oil. Engine ran , started, stopped 8-10 times with maybe 2 hours of running time total. Anyhow I ordered a new shaft and rockers for that side. Meanwhile, I found an old set of Valve Covers to cut the tops out of. Since some of the parts were on backorder, I decided to clean up the old shaft and rockers with emery cloth and reassembled on the engine, and install the observation valve covers. I determined at start up that indeed it is getting oil to both sides. Now waiting on new rockers. I have a complete new interior for this car, but I plan to drive it some, and then work on the Quarter panels and paint later. New interior after that. But.. the front seats looked pretty ratty, so I ordered some cheap seat covers and the Wife gave me an old pillow for the driver seat. I went ahead and puled out the broken windshield. Spent Hours removing the 48yr old rusted window trim clips and screws. Now that I'm waiting on parts, I may pull down the dash and check it all out and repair as needed before the new windshield goes back in. One thing ALWAYS leads to another !!!

Looking like a bunch has got dun Mitch :glasses7: I see you did get the glass out, I looked at a picture in another thread of the seats covered and my brain seen a Charger :glasses7: Must be a Dodge thing :D The brain works funny in the morning , Cheers :coffee2:

Had a guy in Seattle rebuild my tach and modify it for use with an MSD. I ended up not using the MSD. The Tach doesn't work as of yet. When I replaced the under dash harness I had to use the wires off the old harness that fires the tach. Given instructions from the M&H tech I spliced the wires into the new harness. That may be my problem. Or, there may be a problem with the re-wire of the tach. Anyway I do have a schematic to direct wire the tach so that may be my next move.

I'll dig up the info on the guy who rebuilt my tach. There's also a company in Tennessee that knows how to rebuild those tachs.

Here's a pic of my rig. The plastic piece goes between the Tach and the console so you can adjust the angle. I still need to look for a wiring diagram to see how it all goes. Like I said, My car did not have this factory tach. Got it from one of my swap meet buddies at Carlisle. Looks darn near NOS to me. Also, I'm not sure if my console plate has the knock out for the tach. I'm gonna pull the dash and the console next week, so I'll see.

Looks like you are missing the base. Also, I took my car apart during the build and I didn't have a sending unit. You sure that's the correct tach?

Here's some pics of my tach installed. You can see from the second pic that there's a base that goes between the tach and the top plate of the console. This is the correct tach as ordered on the car's broadcast sheet.

Hmmm... Wonder if the one I have may have originally been for a B body. I saw another like yours on line with that base. Wonder if I can find just a base or perhaps fabricate one. Other than that, they look identical.

Yes, that's a correct Mopar tach. I think all the tachs had the base. There's a 67 GTX local here that has the tach. I'll try and see if he has the base. Just an FYI, the tach should work if you run the stock Mopar electronic ignition however it won't with the MSD. Multiple spark. You'll either have to modify the tach or run with an MSD or you'll have to run the MSD tach adapter.

I'm still digging around looking for the business card for the guy who worked on my tach.
 
I PM'd the guy I got the tach from, and he is checking to see if he has the base. I'm using a Pertronix unit in my stock distributor so it looks factory (numbers car). I'll do some digging to find out about the wiring. Be a while before I install it anyhow.

My original plan was to run an MSD. This required a mod to the tach because of the MSD multiple spark. I changed my mind on the MSD (fickle sometimes) and went with a Firecore setup. I probably need to have the tach rewired. I'm still looking for the contact info for the guy that did the tach. As soon as I find it I'll get it to you.

Don't think my Carlisle buddy has another. I did see one not long ago on Egag though. My GTS is a 383 A/T, but I wanted to put one on it anyhow. Mostly only optioned on 4 spd cars. The guy is my buddy, but.... I paid dearly for it. In person it looks NOS.

They Ain't cheap that's for sure.

Update... I finally found out that there was an obstruction in one of the oil galley's, plugging full oiling to the left rockers. Broke it self loose I guess after several burnouts. Anyhow, Since the windshield is out now , I decided to pull the dash, heater box and steering column. Removed the column ad disassembled it. cleaned and re-painted all parts. Replaced upper and lower column bearings, checked turn switch, rebuilt gear box joint. I found that the main steering shaft was bent slightly, so I straightened it using my arbor press. Dash is coming out today, so I can re-paint frame and check gauges and switches. Also pull heater box to rebuild with a kit I got from DMT. Also, already pulled console, and cleaned up real nice. Will look good with the new DMT overlays.

That looks great. Can you fill the cracks in the wheel somehow? I am sure getting a new one is next to impossible.
