Happy Good Friday all y’all! We had a great class this week. Here is class graduation pix.

So for the what it is worth segment today, here are my observations with regard to the popularity of red dot sights on a public range. Please note this is a wide spectrum of shooters from all different skill sets and economic resources. In addition I have never seen a red dot mechanical failure yet, dead battery yes, loose screws yes, not on paper oh heck yes. But they all have functioned. Hands down by a large margin, Venom Vortex most popular by maybe 3:1 other end least popular, Trijicon followed closely by Delta Pro. In the middle and likely second in popularity is the Holosun(sp?) then the rest and there is a lot of them. For my work guns I use Delta Pro, for recreation I use Venom Vortex. I do not have any Holosun but all indications say they rock. Just some random observations from your local RSO.

I run a Black Spider on my AR pistol and a Primary Arms on my carbine, both function as well as expected. Some of the lower price point dots are actually made by some of the higher end brands just like many things in the market today.

I have discovered a new zero point that eliminates thinking about ballistics to a certain degree. No thinking about holdovers or unders, point and shoot from 25 yds out to 300yds it does pretty well.

As only a machinist would! On plus side only the good machinist are weird! Hah! Trivia question, what does 7,000 and your machinist buddy have in common?
You are correct. He is weird. To answer your question I think we all know the answer but I did some "googling" and found that virtually the same can be said for a lb. Of rice.

Vortex customer service is absolutely top notch. When I get the money to burn I’ll be throwing one on my Turkey shotgun for some serious abuse.

Most, not all were hot rodded. At the very least different triggers. Factory triggers for the most part, regardless of manufacture, suck!

I’ve had a Glock sitting on my shelf for a long time that I’m building and went with a factory trigger because of the cost savings. Putting that thing in made me wish I would have just bought the trigger I wanted so I don’t have to do it twice. It’s like one of those brain teaser toys people keep on their coffee table. There is a million ways it moves around but it’s very difficult to get it in the right position to get it to actually sit in the frame. By far my least favorite part of assembly.

So to my 2A extended family, it is a super sad day for us up here. I mentioned I also volunteer for The State as a youth BB gun and 22 instructor. Pictured below is my long time range elf and teachers gopher. Here he is helping me in a BB gun class. At one point He desperately wanted to go Duck hunting but he was being raised by a single Mom and they did not have a shotgun, nor the means to acquire one. I accidentally left behind a Mossberg pump after a Hunters Ed class I was using it for. I told his Mom it was payment for all his hours he volunteered. Sadly this fine young man lost his battle with Cancer this morning. He would have been 15 next month. He was bright energetic and not afraid to range elf for hours at a time. Please wish young Brodie Godspeed.

Godspeed, Brodie...

Son of a gun, that is young

I'll be praying for his mom, I can't even imagine what that must be like for her

Aww man! Sad to hear that. Godspeed Brodie.

Cancer sucks! Prayers for Mom to find strength to get through this.

That is young. Prayers for all that God will comfort each and every one of you.

Cancer does suck, but Heaven awaits those who have faith and believe!!

Not sure about this as I do not own a Glock but heads up Glock guys, I have no idea if this is legit. As I explained I do not own a Glock so I did not research for validity. Just figured it may be relevant for some of you.

I haven’t seen anything in the Glock forums but who knows. Mine is still waiting on a slide assembly so it’s not going to kill anyone.

Anyone seen this brand pop up at retailers?

Scheels carries them, I have heard nothing but solid feedback on them. A lot of competitive guys have been using their parts with great success for a long time. I see a lot of them as hybrids in our classes. Seems like they run great. I have never shot one tho.
