my .02 would be to find 15 inch rims and be further ahead because there would be more choices. Even 15 inch sizes are starting to get limited
Maybe that's part of the issue to. I am pretty sure I have the 9 inch on my drum set up. Dunno if 14's will be too much for that... I know that eventually when i convert to disc front, it will require a wheel upgrade to 14 from 13, I just want to get wheels that fit both my current 9ich drum and my eventual 14 inch
Interested, but let me confirm my bolt pattern...
My bolt circle will be either 5 x 4.00 or 5 x 4.50... Hoping for the latter as it seems there is more options... and according to a lengthy post over in the slantsix forums i stumbled across, the SBP 5 x 4's are hard to find... which means that will most likely be my wheel... haha
Boom, thats it then... it's the dreaded 5 x 4... I found a set of rallye style wheels in vintiques, but only in the "catalog" not online... 14 x 6 tire / 5 x 4 bolt pattern... Gonna put a call into them, but i was really hoping to get some steel wheels. The vintiques Chrysler "police" are the look I was going for... we shall see. least my search is a little more directed now..
Thanks again for the help
I agree with the tire size, I wouldn't go wider than a 6, with a 205/70-14.it will maintain good drivability.
I was looking at some 175/65/r14's, I saw a 205... but to be safe was thinking the largest i should go is a 195/70/r14 to be safe... i still will have the original drums on the car too, so i dont want to overwork the little guys...
195/70/14 is what I ended up using instead of the 215/70/14. Plenty of room with the 195's and probably could have gotten way with 205's, but I was gunshy and did not want to risk having to buy even more tires.
I just mounted small bolt 14" Cragars and 215-70-14's after removing 13" wheels on my 67 Dart and got stung on the fronts (see Pic). I had to buy smaller tires for the front as I couldn't make full radius of a turn without brushing the fender - so, you may want to go smaller than 215-70-14 in the front.

195's ?........Might as well leave your little 13's on.
Your car will take 205/70 or 215/70 all day long. I run 215/70-14 on my 65 Dart and 70 Dart.
If you want to run 15's you run 60 series tires. 205/60-15 or 215/60-15.
If you go 14's a 205/70-14 is a great all around tire. But I would go with a 215/70-14 which is the closest to the stock 14" tires on a 340 car. (F-70/14.)
I happen to know where a great set of 215/70 tires an rims are.
I figure 14 inch is prob the largest i will go since I am keeping the drum brakes for now and keeping the SBP. The 205 tires, if they will fit without problem, could work, but if not, i would be alright with the 195...
Are your wheels SBP? I forgot if that had been brought up earlier...
Rim diameter or size isn't the important fitment issue. It's tire diameter and width. You can have a 17" rim on a wheel that is the same diameter as your current 13" wheels.
A wheel is a tire on a rim.
A 205 70 14 on a 5 1/2"wide rally rim will fit on your front drum brake suspension and not rub
I suppose I should clarify... the plan is to run a 5 x 4.00 bolt pattern 14 inch wheel / rim with (at the largest) a 205/70/R14 (Maybe 195 /70/R14) tire.
Seems like there has been some confusion, my 5 x 4.00 bolt pattern is the SBP. a 5 x 4.50 bolt pattern wont work for me, since it require changing out the bolt pattern from my vehicle all the way around since the 5 x 4.50 / 5 x 5.00 is the LBP.
I agree with you, the SBP 14 inch in a 4.5,or 5.0 wide will work best with your present 9" brakes. Once you upgrade to a 10" drum or disc brakes, you have more choices. Brake efficiency decreases as wheel mass increases. I bought a dart once with 9" brakes, with 14x6 wheels and 215/70-14 tires. it couldn't stop if it's life depended on it. In order to sell it I re-installed 14x5 width and 195/75-14 tires. it stopped on a dime, sold the car, peace of mind.
What would be the correct offset? I have a 65 Dart GT coupe and a convertible and want to run 14" Cragar SS's on both of them. A wider tire in back would be nice, but not essential. This is because of the wrong offset Crager wheel.
