Holey mackerel

so before 10:00am this morning i positioned the floor into place and clamped it down. next step will be to mark the under side so i know where to drill my holes for plug welding to the cross member

this afternoon, i trimmed out what was left of the front rails and trans cross member. from there i rolled the donor front clip over and with a little prying i stretched it into place. all that was left to do, was to clamp it secure for now until i can get the sheet metal mounted to check the fit. once i am satisfied with that i will weld it .[/QUOTE

Yeah, that is exactly what I did. Left the doors in place, screwed and clamped it together and hung the fenders to check the fit. Welded the new front floors in. And yeah, I did keep the front upper rad cross piece with the number stamp. I'm strictly an amateur though.

finished up the day by sectioning the rear rails with the donor clip. alot to do yet. those rear wheel houses need some attention. being a convertible i'll be cutting down the hard top wheel houses and rebuilding the caps. the spare tire well is peppered with holes so that will get the replacement plug. the drop offs will also get a patch or two. it won't be getting a rear body panel either. i'll be straightening that. there are numorous other things not worth mentioning at this time that will need to attended to.

I'm really enjoying this thread and this build. I have a 1967 Barracuda Convertible myself and I love it. Just wished I lived in Illinois and had a friend like Rick!!

no bought the AMD fastback quarters and trimming them down at the belt line. they are heavier metal like oem. and wheel opening lips are the right size. plus they will fit in the latch pillar the right way, so no short cutting the quarter before the jamb.

Looking forward to seeing how you do the quarters. I was looking at this as one of the options when we did my Notchback coupe, but once we blasted the car and started on it the original was not as bad as we thought and they were able to work with it.
 
since this is a convertible, the rear wheelhouses are unique to themselves. but are not available in reproduction. so i would have to use notchback/fasback wheelhouses and they would need to be modified. so i traced out the outline of what was left of the existing portion of the outer wheelhouse on paper i am hoping i will be able to flip this pattern and use it on the opposite side as well. a little change has come about along the way. after inspecting the trunk floor,rear body panel. drop offs and wheel houses pirated from the donor car. the decision was made to replace all mentioned with new metal. first at hand the trunk floor. as always i pre drilled all of my plug weld holes and dropped it into place.
