Has his results run along side other magazines builds?
 
Nat, I hope you at least deep port matched the Victor. I have one and it was horrible and took a lot of work to port match it.

My 408 was 10.8-1, 260°/264° @ .050, .633"/.628" flat solid, ported Edelbrocks, Victor intake, 950HP, 1 7/8" Hedman's, 727 with a 9 1/2" converter that flashed 5400, S-60 with 4.10 gears. At 3260# it ran 6.57 @ 104 and change on pump 93.

The dyno this magazine engine was ran on has produced results before that raised some eyebrows.
 
I would have liked to see what a one inch tall open carb spacer would do to this combination, and then a comparison with the new Trick Flow single plane intake or Edelbrock Victor 340 intake. Of course, that is easy for me to say when I am not paying for the dyno time.

I know that Brule didn’t write it. But he should proof read the article and correct it. Or at least read the article after it’s published and get the mistake corrected. Like I said...this isn’t the first time it’s been incorrectly published.

not sure if he has run against other mag builds , he might have done one or 2 a few years back not 100% sure

not yet , but if the dyno results are not what i expect it will be , so far a quick inspection ports looked good to go , i didn't spend a lot of time on it though

For what it's worth, my Super Victor was dead on and required no work to match to my Eddy heads. Laid it out and it all looked good so no work required.
And BTW...that's sure a fine-running car you have!
 
Through the years I have been involved in some way with various builds that were featured in some magazine article.

There were almost always things that were just flat out wrong in the articles.

Ether proof reader (ball buster to those doing the work from start to finish) or replace the people your upset with...
(Engine builder, parts selector, tuner, etc....)

Have the wife write for you....:poke::D

Budget build: The was the budget when the build was complete. In Dollars !!
 
I really look forward to your dyno numbers. We had mine at the track last year but had issues. Hopefully a true baseline this year.

MY software dyno predict
583 at 6500
540 at 4750.

I sure would be happy with the mid 500s. Certainly seems doable looking at this hotrod build.

i'll give an answer next week my 426 stroker is going on the dyno with a victor replacing the ported air-gap and 13cc dish pistons replacing the 23cc dish pistons should do better just cause the victor intake , it made 510 hp 560 tq with the air gap , so that 408 beats my 426 , but is that dyno calibrated properly ? those numbers sound high for that combo , mine had 2 inch headers bigger cam and an 850 holley on it made less hp and 40lbs more torque . i just never trust those magazine numbers

you should make over 500 hp with what you have . whatever happens it will be plenty fast
 
Don't know if you all saw the engine masters 408 ford vs. 408 Mopar builds a while back both built with same out of the box available parts same edelbrock rpm aluminum heads on both(the victor heads apparently were not available at the time of build) but pushrod location severely limited intake port size and flow ability for the Mopar, the ford heads from edelbrock simply flowed better resulting in better numbers for the ford. This is basically the same engine with a set of great flowing heads out of the box making close to 100 more horsepower and torque on a relatively tame street engine. I had been looking forward to this since I had seen the comparison build and feel this really levels the playing field and remember that this engine was built to the customers wishes, we are all allowed to build our engines as we wish. Off my soapbox now
 
@CrankyMike The Ford made 33.4+ more hp over the MoPar. The Dulcich home ported, moved pushrod and later helped by his friend “Brice” along with the ported Super Victor made 92.1 more HP @6400 rpm vs the 438.2 @ 5500 rpm.

The Blue Print/MoPar 408 (actual 410) has a Hyd roller comp cam @ 241/247 @.050.

ALSO!!! Do note the change of headers used between the Ford vs MoPar shoot out (pay no attention to the Ford header, just the MoPar header at this time) and then the header used on the home ported Edelbrock heads and Victor header size. It is a totally different header.

Then note the dyno graphs between episodes.

I said early a single plane would be what I would do with the right cam. If I seem to contradict myself with the DP statement, then let me be clear, I’d run the DP with the right cam. Of course each route would have the converter, gear ratio & tire size to match. There would also be a pretty decent weight loss reduction going on with the single plane.

I myself find the BP/408 Hyd roller cam to be In between what I’d like to the. With ether intake in an engine this size.
 
I definitely think for the Carb/ntake/camshaft and compression they got on this combo that those numbers are impressive. I would have guess about 480 peak hp. I would like to see an article really try to push all they can out of these heads but neither the Mopar Action or this build has done that. Like to see a build really try for the 600 mark.
 
Go to Simpsons Speed Shop on youtube he has a video of a 360 build with the trick flow heads stock bottom end, rods and pistons makes 530 hp! I tried to post link but whole video showed up in post so thought I better remove it.

Which leads to the question why would you need a stroker when you can pull the same horsepower out of a stock bottom end 360
