My friend's 64 Belvedere /6 3 on the tree. I found it in a local yard some 30 years later and bought it.

Mine first car was 77 LTD. Mine was seafoam green originally, but by the time I got it it was black. Had a .060 over 460 with Keith Black pistons. Blew 9” after 9” in that thing til I put a mini spool in. Figured out years later the “popping” that I was attributing to some timing issue was detonation, resulting from using 87. Ended up trading for a 71 straight 6 malibu

Funny you should mention go carts in this thread...

When I was a 12-13 year old kid I had a friend, Eric, with a go cart who lived about 5-6 blocks south of the DMV test facility in Plymouth, MN (satellite image below), and on more than one occasion we snuck our go carts into the facility late at night via a loose fence we knew about near the back of the property. We never got caught, and imagine the fun we had tearing around the "streets" in near total darkness with our carts...

When it came time to take our driver's tests both of us knew the layout of the place pretty well, and both Eric and I passed on our first attempt. Go figure!

I guess I grew up in a poor town, we had to use the city streets.

But man that would have been fun.

I had a 60' by 60' backyard to ride around. Burnt in a 2 tire mark track. I thought I was king of the world!
 
I took the drive test in my mothers 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham.

The first car I had was the "kid" car a 1955 Chevy, it was down needing a repair so I borrowed my moms Oldsmobile to go to school (not the first time I needed to), on the way home maybe a little to relaxed I dozed off and pulled a Dukes right off the freeway.

Wow! That looks amazingly close to what I did to my mom's Granada about a month after I got my license (response #12 above).

Did they fix the Cutlass, or total it out?

My mom wanted a 2 door Oldsmobile Omega with a 350 under the hood, but this was what she got, a 1974 "**** brindle brown" 4 door Maverick with a 250 cube 6 banger. Not the same car, but identical in appearance to this one.
She had a driving school and the car was equipped with dual accelerator and brake pedals for many years. It was actually a pretty good car, she put over 150k miles on it in the 17 years she owned it before trading it in on a 1981 Thunderbird.
I drove that car long before I was old enough to have a license, even had a minor collision with a drunk driver one Saturday afternoon, so I was very familiar with it by the time I passed my road test on my 16th birthday.
The dealership had applied such a thick undercoating that it would still occasionally drip some on a hot summer day 10 years later, and had almost no rust when mom traded it in on the T-bird, and surprisingly was never in need of any bodywork.

365 hp 455. Still needed a slow moving vehicle sign attached to it.
 
No, it was a 3 speed torqflite.
We had a 55 dodge station wagon that had a 2 speed auto.
Big lever sticking out of dash to select gears.
R-N-D-L to the best of my memory. ( i'm 79 now).
 
First car, barely had my license if that counts. 1966 Dart 273 4-Barrel 4 speed car. No picture I can easily grab. But here's a drawing I did of it when I was insane over it in my teens. I do still miss it.

I took drivers ed in school, so I never had to take a driving test with the state, and I was really fortunate to have driven a new 80 Buick Regal Sport 2-door in drivers ed.

While I don't ever remember having any photos of my first car I did get it the day after I got my license. Robin Egg Blue 77 Mercury Monarch 2-door like the one in the photo.

That car had a 250 with a 1-barrel and a C4 transmission. It was a great first car as I learned a lot in the backseat with several fine young ladies in the day.

However; I only owned that car about 6-months because it was so slow. I sold it to buy a 67 Ford Fairlane 500, 289, bucket seat, auto on the floor with a console.

I really learned how expensive a car could be with that Fairlane, but I also learned how to work on cars with it too. Sadly the girls weren't interested in it like the Monarch. :rolleyes:

I had the same car, almost.

Except mine was a black Granada that came with a 302 and a 4 speed with OD. I dropped a 460 in it with a toploader and a 9” with 5.67 gears. Engine wasn’t in there very straight (we welded it in solid and didn’t worry too much about getting things perfect), but it could lift one of the front tires about 6” off the ground if I timed the “bounce” right.

Was pretty fun….for about 3-4 months. Then it burned to the ground from an electrical fire.

My first try was in my Grandpa's 67 Chevy Biscane and the PA Trouper failed me without any good reason. I had to wait until the following Saturday and I had to use my Dad's 63 Belair Wagon. ( picture is from the net) Straight 6 and 3 speed column shifter, manual steering and brakes. I spent months running that car in and out of the driveway so I was real comfortable using it for my test. I think the Trouper was impressed that a 120 pound 16 year old could handle that car the way I did and passed me without a problem. About a week later my Dad let me drive it to school and I thanked him by stuffing it into a tree on my to school. I still have the scar on my chin 57 years later.
