This is the cheapest route. Every guy ever had one of these told me they ran 10s. Get a couple and stick em on your car.

LOL! I know those guys! They are the same ones that tell you their car runs 10's, 9's or whatever ........ as I stare at their BFG radial tiresThis is the cheapest route. Every guy ever had one of these told me they ran 10s. Get a couple and stick em on your car.View attachment 1715381907
My absolute favorite is they all have a 3/4 cam? LOL I had this lady customer (on the phone) I could tell it was coming out of her mouth as she was saying it and before she could finish I was already saying there's no way you have a 3/4 cam. Then she goes on to argue that two people have told her so LOL I said then two people were wrong!...LOL! I know those guys! Well yeah do it with a Chevy and cut that price at least in half if not one quarter...Not a mopar, but I have a car that gets 20mpg with a 355/4spd, 28" tires, 3.73, no overdrive. Burns 91oct pump gas, even has a Edelbrock 600 carb. With a Powershot plate, it's been 5.73 in the 1/8th with a 1.30 60'. Pretty sure it would run 8's at a 1/4mi track, but don't want to jump thru all the hoops for the tech guys

Also dammit my mind keeps thinking about that stupid clutch Tamer of yours. Not a mopar, but I have a car that gets 20mpg with a 355/4spd, 28" tires, 3.73, no overdrive. I’ve got a 68 340 barracuda with a 4 speed and 3.55 rear gear it’s got a cam just a touch above stock and x heads, also got an LD340 intake with carter 1406 afb carb basically a stock rig but also have the hi-po exhaust manifolds, I want to get this car into the 10’s and still be streetable, how would you guys go about this? I eventually may want to turn the car into a daily so if mpgs can be kept in mind with the aforementioned goal that would be a plus. I was thinking something along the line of turbos, overdrive and 2.91’s but I’m just spitballing and have no real knowledge of mechanics behind me
I can see it now! LOLThat would be a fun budget build...…. 10 second street car. Drive it 1 hour to the strip, race it as it was driven, and come home. I'd start with a 440, though. 727, 8.75 with 3.55's...…
I think I could get there with a cast head - 440 - with 2500 into the 440. pump gas, and it would live fine.I wonder what the life span of a 340 - 422ci engine capable of 10 sec passes at the track on a budget.
Set a side 15 k at a minimum for the engine budget.
I still have the " Dream Weaver " song in my mind from a few other threads. lol
Fuel mileage ? street friendly ? good luck !I think I could get there with a cast head - 440 - with 2500 into the 440. pump gas, and it would live fine.
One more thing one the road at 50 mph you could watch the gass gage go down, 3 mpg was all it got.In 1990 I did it for just under 10k, mid 10s with a 440 Volare. Fun to drive on the street but not practical to drive, I had a large radiator and crank driven water pump so it never got hot. Loud and rowdy with 12.5 cr and Comps 650 lift cam, 290 duration at. 050 like I said rowdy.
well, what is expected of fuel mileage?? 12 mpg? Street friendly to me is I can drive it 1 hr to the strip, and return home. That's a true street car.Fuel mileage ? street friendly ? good luck !
Get a stock pile of Abody four speeds, 500 hp will kill them quickly third gear especially.
Street friendly to me is I can drive it 1 hr to the strip, and return home. That's a true street car.
You could not build a 440 for 2500 bucks and run 10's and get 12mpg.well, what is expected of fuel mileage?? 12 mpg? Street friendly to me is I can drive it 1 hr to the strip, and return home. That's a true street car.
This can be done but you need to realize that if your going to use castiron heads you will need good valves 2.14/1.81 good springs keepers and retainers. Cut the open chambers down to 80cc closed down to 70cc pocket port and do a performance valve job if you can find a good set the aren't cracked. Your going to have close to a grand in your castiron heads that don't flow. You also need a cam with more duration to make work than the new aluminum heads.I think I could get there with a cast head - 440 - with 2500 into the 440. pump gas, and it would live fine.
Ditto as long as you add in, “Stuck in traffic from N.J. Through NYC crawling in stop and go for 30 miles without overheating or breaking down.”
“Streetabilty” is a term that varies by perspectives and things like fuel mileage, street friendliness & creature comfort. What ever your willing to live with and live without is also a wide and varied field. If you don’t mind driving to the track on hazy, hot, humid 99* days without A/C, God bless ya!
Never said I'd get 12 mpg, I asking if that was a target because "gas mileage" was a topic. You could not build a 440 for 2500 bucks and run 10's and get 12mpg.
Your budget tells me the 440 won't live very long. lol
