I must need to brush up on my history.

I expected to see a 67 barracuda but it's a 66 and the pic on the box looks like a 65.

I don't remember specifically, but I think they had successive years of the "hemi under glass"

the 66 was way more popular than the 65, maybe the 65 didnt last?

This is the most famous shot of the 65 model, notice the back tires off the ground

1966....didn’t last long, he crashed it at an airstrip, he flipped upside down, then turned backwards and slid into a pole, the collision caused the engine to be slammed into him. Couple weeks later he tore the car apart and had 2 piles of parts from the car....good parts and bad parts....he was gonna fix it. He said he had this young kid working for him in the shop and told him to take the bad parts in for scrap. Bob came back later only to find he hauled all the parts away...that was the end of the 1966 car. The newer pictures are of the one he built in the early 90’s...notice the one picture doesn’t have “Hurst” in the H....it wasn’t till years later they (Hurst) allowed him to put it back on. Bob was so nice to me when I met him...hung out all day at the track with him when I was 15 and heard all kids of stories!

                Interesting history lesson here.

I originally picked up the incomplete model kit, expecting a 67. Then I was going to remove the engine and kit bash it into a regular 67 barracuda.
Then i open the box at home and BAM it's a 66.

Still might make a regular barracuda because I don't think a model kit is available for a 66 barracuda??

                OR

Find the missing pieces and complete it as it came in the kit.

I know Bob Riggle pretty well. He once told me that the 66 was his best driving car.
It always went up, and drove straight with very little effort. Now he had many over the years but the 66 was his favorite. To me the best looking were the 68-9.

The kit you have is a mistake, they used to the wrong box art.
The 66 has just been re-issued, it's on ebay or a local hobby shop.
Lots of different kits over the years.

several years ago, I believe I saw the 2nd Gen cuda at the "mopars at the strip" show/race in LV, NV. It was beautiful. really well done.

I liked his 66 best but I love the 66 cars in general. He is such a nice guy....met him a couple times. When I was 15 he came to BIR here in Minnesota, me and 2 other friends hung out in his pit area all weekend and got signed t-shirts...people though we were part of the pit crew lol. I have pictures from that day and many pictures with him, he even let all of us sit inside his car! Think this was 1992 or 93, he just got the car built and it was pretty fresh yet. He put on a good show and it was cool to see him run at the Nats side-by-side with Bill Golden!

I met Bob back around 1992-ish. Great guy to talk to and he gave me an autographed picture. I still have that pic somewhere up in the attic. I remember looking that car up and down for a good half hour, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.
Unfortunately when he went to make a pass he got the wheels up then broke the rear. On the trailer it went.
I think the sparks are made by magnesium blocks they bolt on the wheelie bars.

                          Hi Ranigirl,

MPC did offer a 67 fastback back in the late 60s early 70s, and then later on morphed it into a 69 fastback. Periodically the built up 67 fastback kits show up.

I have seen a resin cast coupe body and interior tub with rear seat and rear window to build a notchback coupe. Your supposed to use the fastback kit for the rest.

Keep on trolling evilbay, the 67 fastback kits show up periodically. I bet being that this is MPC we're talking about, that the 66 kit papb had all the parts for "stock", "custom," or Hemi under glass". I had the old Lindberg dodge lil red wagon A100 wheelstander kit. You coulda built it stock or as the wheel stander kit. I eventually had 2 of them. One stock, one as the lil red wagon

                          they re-released that one as a Coca-Cola A100

all the wheel stander parts are still included in that kit (though not advertised)

Highway 61 offered a 1/18 scale model of Riggle's 66 Hemi Under Glass Barracuda. Pretty well detailed, with opening doors and trunk lid, removable hood and rear window, detailed interior and hemi engine, working front suspension and a turning driveshaft. I've had one for a few years. Here's a couple pix I pulled off the web:

I was looking at the 68 when he was at Commerce GA. I said, "Thats a chevy truck molding". He said, "Good eye" and walked away.
