today I was hoping to have everything done on the Dart and ready to go get the exhaust run from headers to mufflers

I changed from the Hookers I had due to clearance issues to TTI

In reading the instructions several times before starting, I thought it should go pretty good. Well the left header has a slip tube that goes on the outside of the torsion bar and JUST IN THE LOCATION of the proportioning valve for the rear brakes. So tonight after fighting trying to get them in, I stopped and went and bought a 20" long brake line and connector to more the valve back on the frame rail. Tomorrow I will move the valve, then have the bleed the brakes so I can get the DAMN things in there.

I HATE HEADERS, and if I had a set of 69~71 340 Iron I would been happier and not spent so much money on damn headers that DO NOT FIT

I do not know if I will have to modify my Z Bar, my guess it will have to be, but if not I may have it all together tomorrow

did I say I HATE HEADERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :angry7: :cussing: :cussing:

I have headers, nothing flows like em but they do suck when it comes to clearance purposes.

I know where your coming from Larry. I had to replace the steering box on my cuda a couple months ago and of course the dang left header had to come off. Getting it out wasn't terrible but I didn't have any help getting it back in and even with the engine unbolted and jacked up and to the right as far as I could get and the car 3 feet in the air it I still couldn't push the header back up in there by myself. After fighting with it for a half hour and it getting the best of me my back was killing me and I got aggravated and put a little floor jack under it and cranked it till it went. When it did go it shot up and hit the new paint on the inner fender and put a dent in it. :banghead:

Oh boy. Have fun.

I had to chop up my z bar to get it to work with tti headers.

For as much as they cost, the thought put into z bar clearance was about ZERO, IMHO!

finally got them in

had to move the proprtioning valve for the left header to fit and then remove the right motor mount to get the right header in

anyone else with a 4 speed small block and TTI headers have problems on the right?

I have to make spacers to raise the engine a little to keep from hitting the nut on the right tie rod at the Idler arm from hitting the header

did I mention I HATE HEADERS?

At least it is not an early A body.. dam t bars out, steering column, drag link, turn the trans sideways to get it in yada yada and more.. , 87 beers (well that part is OK) yep flow is better, but some cars are a B.... to install them and everything around them..

Glad ya got it...

You ain't kidding! I hate'em to!

I didn't have to do to much with the TTIs (67 Barracuda 360) . I had to shave a 1/2" off the Lakewood scatter shield on the passenger side. I had to take some off of the z-bar on the very bottom so it would not rub the header AFTER I installed a set of thicker motor mounts insulators in order for the driver side header would not hit the steering gear box (manual). But the brake lines was not a concern or proportionating valve. What do you have?

I have the full TTI 2.5 system with chrome headers on my 360/4spd '70 Dart and had no issues installing everything, didn't have to tweak nothing,I can even remove my factory starter with the headers in place.Pricey yes,but for me it was worth every penny.Four years and not a scratch on my headers.

Chrome huh? I bet those shine like a polished dime! LOL! I thought about going chrome but didn't for some reason. I went polished ceramic coated versions. They shine nicely. I wanted anything that wasn't going to burn off and start rusting. I get comments all of the time "Dang what kind of headers are those?"

Yeah I have removed my starter without taking one bolt loose on the header.

well I'm getting close

The proportioning valve is something I installed when building the car and installed SSBC disc brakes on the front

the right header I cut a tab off the side of the bellhousing, but still not enough room so after remembering I had to remove the right motor mount to install the hookers, I took it off and the TTI when right in

I will have to trim the bottom of the Z Bar so it doesn't hit the header, I'll get the wife to hold the clutch down while I grind on it, but once I got them in they look great and I have more clearance than with the hookers, plus I shouldn't bottom out on these like the Hookers

Instead of getting a spacer made to raise my engine, what truck mount is thicker than the stock mounts on my car. and how much thicker are they?

From what I have heard TTi's were suppose to be a breeze.
I'm running a set of 340 manifolds for these reasons.

Looking good Larry. Sorry I can't help on what truck mount would work but I know Schumacher replacement mounts are a little thicker. The ones with the internal steel that locks up on torque. Only thing is that $150 price tag but at least their unbreakable unlike the original mounts. They measured about 1/8-3/16" thicker than a new stock one I had.

Summit headers work well... im going to have them plated maybe maybe buy TTI later in life

I think their bent just like Hookers. In some cars they seem to clear ok but in others they don't. No consistency. My Hookers didn't hit anything but I've seen on similiar cars they hit in several places. Go figure. Options come into play alot. If your car has manual steering and an auto that's a big plus from what it looks like to me.

I've NEVER used headers, and, I've NEVER hated MOPAR exhaust manifolds. They were designed for adequate performance.[street]

I cant wait to get my TTI's. Every time I go for a drive I have to remember the srteets I can/can't go down. Looking forward to no more of this!!

My last set of TTIs fit great. 71 Scamp, 340 auto. The cheap headersI had in my Barracuda hung low but other wise fit ok.

The Dart is getting manifolds though.

ALL headers aren't going to fit like you're dropping a rock into a big pond. Most always there has to be some type of modification because every car is not exactly the same. This requires a little work and head scratching but the benefits out weigh the stock exhaust manifolds. That's why they made headers to flow better. I get tired of people bad mouthing TTI saying "If they don't fall right in I'm not buying them."

I've heard the same thing for Hooker,Headmen, etc..

There are two size insulators that I know about. I've got the thin ones in a box and there are thick ones that I have on my car. I got the thick ones at Summit racing for around $11. I would like to give the part number but it is buried in a sea of invoices and receipts. They shouldn't be hard to find.

looks like my left hooker header without the ceramic coating, one of my 1st trips out in the Dart 3 years ago I was going down a country road and hit a dip and scraped them on the road

IF, I had a factory set of 68~71 exhaust manifolds I would have put them on. I didn't have them so went the header route, when everyone said how well TTI fit I decided to switch to them

now that I have them, IF, I ever build another car I will have to find factory exhaust manifolds

Dont recall bad mouthing TTi's, in fact if I was building a street/strip car I wouldnt use anything else. On the same motor TTi's have a 12 hp advantage over the stock 340 manifolds.

The paticular car I am building,at the present,is closer to a factory 340 car.

First time I drove this car, right after I got home with it, we drove to the local blockbuster to rent a movie. As I was pulling into the parking lot, over a little speed bump it went scraaaape/griiinnd!! & I thought I had ripped the bottom out of it. I checked the radiator, oilpan & everything else. Turned out to be the hedder. Sure sounded bad tho, enough to make me look franticly for fluids in the middle of the parking lot! These hedders are 15+ yrs. old, so its time for some new ones anyways!
