Nice work!It looks like the last pieces of the puzzle. You,ll be ready in time for Spring cruising.:burnout:

Thanks, Scott, i just need to get off my a$$ to finish the gear set!
Then it's some body work on the rear quarters, an inspection, then i'm cruising!

Thanks George, i hope it won't be long now! :D

Yeah, i'll give you 300 bucks in 100 dollar bills for that rusty '37 Plymouth.
That should make some room in your shop! :poke:
I'm gonna do some work on it this weekend, so quit buggin'!
Geez......:D

Good work bud, your weld's make me look like an amateur 👍

Thanks, i try.
Actually, in my previous life i was a journeyman welder before i had to give it up for health reasons.
I haven't welded much in 10 years, but it's coming back to me, it's like riding a bike! :D
I love welding actually, and wish i could do it for a living again.

I just got the third member back from having the gears put in and set up.
Pics coming soon, with assembly and install of the 8 3/4!

I like it! I'm not as big a fan of the Duster/Demon/Dart Sports as the Darts/Valiants, but damn dude-you've done a good bit of work to bring one back from the clutches of the crusher to a daily driver-congrats and great job.

I'm on the bandwagon with everyone else about your self-proclaimed lackluster welds-they're better than I could muster for just a MIG and not touching it for 10 years or so. Sucks that you had to stop for health reasons. I've been told professional welders earn a very comfortable living.

I like the stripes, and the overall progress on this build-makes me smile! I'll be keeping an eye on this one!

Jeff

Thanks for the compliments.
Yeah, maybe i was selling my welding skills a little short here, at least they are definitely better than the factory ones!
I have been welding by feel and instinct a lot until i started using my old school helmet, now i can see the puddle again. I just can't get used to the auto darkening helmets. :glasses7:
I'm getting better as the project rolls along as well.
Yes, you can make a decent living at it, i did for years, and it is a very satisfying trade if you have a lot of patience. it is also very hard on the body at times.
Keep watching, there is a lot more to come!

Here's some pics of the center section, all set up and ready to go together!
Now i just have to get off of my behind and assemble the parts and put it in the car.......

I got all of the parts from Dr.Diff, great guy to deal with and good prices too.
The gear third member was installed and set up by a friend of mine that has all of the tools and knowledge to set the gears up right.
I did all of the cleaning, and he set them up using a crush sleeve eliminator kit that i also got with the gears and bearing sets.
The wear marks on the sure grip are the result of the old crush sleeve letting go on the original gear set!
There were no chunks or metal filings in the oil.
It all checked out okay other than that and i also used new bolts throughout.
The new 3:55s should be awesome for what i am using the car for!

Yeah, i thought it was a good compromise since i will be driving it every day 5 miles into the city and 5 miles back........
:burnout:

Well, the rear end is now in!
Many thanks for helping me with this goes to R.J. (71Racer) who did 95% of the work.
I've been having a lot of problems with my back lately, and without him, it wouldn't have been possible.

Looking good, Is there a reason you have not fixed the drivers quarter panel yet.
I assume when you get time you are going to cut and weld in a patch.
Rear end looks great, fyi it cost me 100 bucks last month to have a 8.75 rear set up which I thought was resonable.

Thanks for the question, compliment, and your interest in my build, sireland67.
I paid the guy i know the $125 for the rear end set up because he needed the money and is a family man, still cheap in my books.
The reason that i haven't fixed the quarter panel yet is that i wanted to get the mechanical part of the build completed first.
That way it cleaned up a lot of parts that i had ready to install, and i could bring my car home from my friend's shop so he could have more space there for his projects, as well as i could work on some of the small details at home at my leisure.
Then it's time for an inspection and insurance, which should be within the next week or so.
His hoist is only open to me once in awhile and i had to coordinate all of my work within his schedule, which is only fair.
I have had problems with my health lately, my back is pretty sore, and i had the good luck of him (Racer71 or R.J.) to help me with the heavy parts of the build.
I'm starting to feel a lot better now.
Don't worry, the next part of the project involves installing some new AMD sheet metal that i already have bought for the car a couple of months ago!
I have lots left to go, but i am looking forward to the welding part of the body.
After it's inspected and insured, i can drive the car as i do the body work on it.
Excuses excuses!
Stay tuned!

Right on Tom. That does give it a nice stance with the new diff. She's come a long way from the state from which you started. You know I have a work out program, it may not do much for your back, but it will help keep your arm in good shape! :drinkers: :D
