Interesting thoughts and observations on OD transmissions

I found an alternative pressure switch suco 0166407031027 which seems very well made and is easy to adjust.

I have pressure switches set for overdrive to come in at about 45MPH and drop out at just over 40. Lockup comes in just below 50 and drops out at about 45. In the UK we fairly often have freeway speed limited to 50MPH in roadworks and this allows comfortable cruising in lockup OD.

I have the lockup controlled on an adjustable vacuum switch that switches out at anything more than light throttle and overdrive controlled through a half throttle switch on the carb linkage. If I mash the throttle into the carpet both LU and OD switch out and dependent upon speed I get kickdown as well. More gentle application of the loud pedal drops the gears sequentially.

Pressure switches mounted on a distribution block just under the hood makes adjustment very easy. It's a screwdriver slot between the Lucar terminals.

That’s a great setup ! Did you have to bleed the solenoids since they are higher than the trany ?

My switches are mounted on the back of my intake and didn’t need bleeding.
Pressure is pressure either air or fluid.

I had a third pedal for years and I’m over it.
This car was never intended to be a hotrod, though it is fairly capable.
So something has to be a hot rod to have three pedals? Hogwash

4.5 on 5
The carrier is out of the Dakota, not the axles.
I'm thinking Del's referring to the rear discs, no 5-stud Daks w/rear discs,..Jeep Wanglers, Grand Cherokee's, & Liberty's yes....

That’s probably the case.
A couple of friends got it all and dropped it off at my house, so it’s possible the discs came off a different vehicle.

Yes, stock converter (1800)
The 3.55 gears with the low first of the 42RH makes things pretty fun in town, though I did twist a driveshaft in half and had a stronger built.
OD with lockup gets me about 2,200 at 80mph.
The cam from Oregon Cams was selected and ground for good torque.
214/224@50 with .512 lift and 110 lsa for a little sound.

I’m running a Holley 770 Street Avenger, vacuum secondary and electric choke. (With some light mods)
New Zealand EQ heads, 1.92 valves and LA style intake mounting, Hughes 1110 springs with the retainer and locks kit that allows the .512 lift without running into the positive style stem seals.

I have a 8.25 1973-4 A body diff with a Dakota limited slip that bolted right in with different carrier bearings, and the factory Dakota disc brakes that also bolted right on.
I did have to add longer wheel studs due to the discs being added.

I recorded a video but it was trash. Maybe I'll try it again.

Sounds like a well thought out build. The 3.55 + 2.74 1st would be great for me. I lost a bit of low end torque when I put on the short runner M1, so the 3.23 + 2.45 1st isn't quite as torquey as it was before. I have a 2500 rpm converter so it's balancing out a little, but I'll be happier once I get a 3.73 installed.

I wish I could cam up to what you're running, but the factory Magnum tune won't allow anything with more than 114° LSA. I'm stuck with 208/214@50 with .523 lift and 114° LSA, and factory heads. I should have bought a set of those NZ EQs 10 years ago when everyone was raving about them!

I haven’t gotten around to a video, and today it’s raining here.
Yep, that’s a shame about the EQ’s.
Don’t know why they stopped making them.
