Well a few months ago I bought myself a truck from a guy who got it at an estate sale.
1974 W200 with a 360, NP 435 manual transmission, 205 divorced transfer case, Drum brake Dana 44 Up front and Dana 60 out back.

Very nice truck...
I've been looking for a 72-74 long bed club cab 4×4... It's a hard to find truck..
 
Nice! Any plans for it or just gonna drive the wheels off?

A few weeks ago, I pulled the transmission and transfer case out for a rebuild. They were very greasy! So I decided to go through them and clean ‘em up. I’m doing a disc brake swap on the front axle using parts from the ‘73-87 Chevy 3/4 ton trucks.
 
So 3 weeks ago, I took the iron 4 barrel manifold off, and installed an Edelbrock streetmaster intake. In all honesty, I think it actually hurt the performance, it didn’t seem to like higher RPMs than before, it really fell on its face after 4500 RPM. I put a set of Hedman Elites on, that helped a little. Nice headers and easy to install!

I think your intake swap was a step backward. It is very hard to beat that factory 4 bbl manifold. Jmho

Btw I have a 81 club cab, 1 ton, 2 wheel drive that is the same colors as your truck but differant pattern.
 
The long bed club cab is my dream truck. I love the club cabs! This regular cab long bed Is good enough.
I did a 76 and gave it to my son..
But I would like a 74 or older for myself so I can circumvent our emissions... I'm basically do whatever I want..

nice! Wow, that bed! What did he haul? cotton balls? The PO either never hauled anything, and/or it was covered up all the time. It looks virgin!
there's nothing really wrong with the stock 360 4bbl manifold, other than being heavy.
 
When you get to the NP435, I would appreciate some good pictures of the second gear synchronizer when you come apart. I went through the NP435 in my '72 W200 some years back and must have screwed something up going back together as it has never shifted well going into 2nd since.

BTW, stock factory tach....(drooling). Did it have A/C at one time? I see the ducts that mine doesn't have.

this truck had a dealer add on A/C system. It was a neat little setup, they drilled a 2” hole in the firewall to run the hoses to the under dash mounted radiator thing that then went to the vents. I sold the pump and brackets to another tin grille owner.

So I posted in that “crank breakers” thread... this is the truck. The open header 360 sounded pretty good and I jammed the shift forks together shifting too fast. Got stuck between gears and had to tow the truck back home. LOL Engine made some weird noise too. Man I can’t have anything nice.
 

I just thought of something looking at your transfer case. When I went through mine the seals for the two shift rails were shot from craposis being pulled into the seals when the rails move. I took some stiff 1/4" or so (can't remember the exact thickness) rubber sheeting and cut two rubber washers about 2-2 1/2" in diameter that fit tightly over the rails. I installed them before you put the crossbar on. These seem to really help protect the seals. Just a comment.
 
Man I had one of those fuel sucking pigs years ago, traded it off when gas hit $1.00 a gallon.
I have a 76 w200, with 400/2bbl/auto, which used to get 11mpg, if lucky. I got rid of the full-time 4wd front axle, by swapping in a part-time 4wd front axle, & put a kit into the transfer case to make it part-time, too. It gets 15mpg, now, which I can live with. It also helped the low speed handling, and reduced the turning circle.

Speaking of mileage, one could add a GearVendors unit between the trans and transfer case .

Of course that would require moving the transfer case back and modified drive shafts .
It would allow you to split gears even in four wheel drive and give you overdrive for mileage on the highway . It would cost a bit though, under 4 grand (gasp) . Just a thought .

My 76 W200 had a 440 with 4.10 gears it got 4 mpg, regardless if loaded or empty.
My last 78 W150 with a 360 4-speed got 14.5 mpg all day long, I did put the kit in the transfer case on that one.

These trucks are just shoving air, with the brick front ends.

@6PakBee I don’t have much going on with my 435, I have another one I’ll take apart for ya and get ya pictures of that 2nd gear. I’ve heard from multiple people you can rebuild these things in the dirt with no tools, others say you need a damn precision dial indicator, so I don’t know much, I didn’t use a dial indicator on this one to check end play, I just ran with it. Hopefully it’ll shift. I don’t know.
 
Nice truck. You don’t find them in that good shape around here. Looks like it has never been used.

Don't go to that much trouble on my account. I'll figure something else out. As I remember, second gear is a strut style synchronizer rather than the cone style that 3rd and 4th use. Like an idiot, thinking because I had the FSM I didn't have to pay attention, I just took it apart. When it came time to reassemble it, the FSM is vague and as I mentioned, second gear has never shifted right. As to the transmission itself, you have to pay attention to the clearances on the 3rd and 4th synchonizers or they will not work. I found this out on an NP420 I worked on. There were other bearings that you needed to set the end play on (tapered rollers) IIRC. But it's been a number of years and the memory is the first thing to go.
