68 dodge dart, 318, A883. Was originally a slant 6 3 speed car.

I have a lever style clutch and for a while I wasn't using the over center spring because it wasn't in the car when I bought it. After going through it all I bought a over center return spring for it, realizing I probably need one for the clutch to work properly. Now that I've installed it I notice the clutch pedal linkage up top hits the spring when it's returned to normal. I've also noticed that when I press the pedal down, unless I do it fast, the pedal only retracts a small amount. And it not an even glide retraction it's more of 2 motions.

I also think my adjuster rod may be too small. I will take some photos and post a little video showing photos if that's more helpful. Thanks

So this is what's going on with my clutch pedal. I would like to really figure out this issue because it's just undriveable with this sticky clutch pedal. It behaved better without the over center return spring but I know it needs it with my lever style clutch. Is the spring maybe installed backwards? Does it make a difference?

I'm also uploading pictures of my adjuster rod, I don't know if it's to short or what, I've gotten the throw out bearing pretty close to the clutch levers but not as close as I believe they should be.

Any help would be appreciated.

If it worked fine before without the over center spring then I'd just ditch the spring. The only thing the spring does is make the clutch pedal a little easier to push, it has no other effect on clutch operation.
It's possible that you have a heavy duty over center spring with a standard duty pressure plate.

The sticking pedal is pretty clearly due to the overcenter springs rubbing against and binding on the pedal lever at the linkage connection. It should not be rubbing; it looks like the upper end (near the steering wheel) is hooked to the wrong point and should be hooked at a point closer to the driver door side of the car.

And, when in the upper end of the pedal travel, the overcenter spring length should very slighty shorten (if it changes at all) as you move the pedal back up through the upper 1" of travel. In that way, it is helping the return spring, not fighting it. I can't tell if that is happening from the video, but can be accomplished by moving the steering wheel end of the spring a bit lower.

I can't tell you if flipping the spring around will do this or not; you should just try it both ways and flipped upside down.

Don't leave it binding like this, because it is probably keeping the clutch lever against the throwout bearing and will wear out that bearing.

hmmm... i can only see one location for this to mount on. Can anyone maybe take a picture of theres? So i can see where it mounts too? Im pretty sure mines at the right spot though...

Also I believe this is the standard duty spring according to the brewers site.

You need to flip the over center spring 180*. You have it installed upside down.
