What bugs me about this 318 vs X debates, is they over sale the negative aspects of the 318, if they were more honest about the differences and didn't over exaggerate positive's on one and under play the other, I would generally have little to say in these debates, they almost always act like 318 people want way too much from a 318 and it's gonna take a Nascar R&D team to accomplish it with a dump truck full of cash. It's ridiculous.
exactamundo.

you can almost fall out of bed and snap together a 300hp 318 with swapmeet junk that'll absolutely light it up in an a-body. and it doesn't take a 280 500 lift cam either.

You are speaking from inexperience.

You have zero clue how much power you make and where you make it.

Most guys easily leave 20-30 hp on the table.

The time slip is only the end all when the dyno numbers and the time slip agree.
I don't see me ever spending the money and a day to dyno an engine, though never say never. As I stated, it's a great tool. I just know too many people that haven't made the dyno number match the ET slip when at the track. Then had to change the tune and sometimes components for real track times and then go faster.

I think that it's more fun to get better performance from a combo like 318willrun has done. Not everyone can afford trick heads and all kinds of port work. Racing isn't fun like it used to be, if you don't have a trust fund you can't compete

Because I spoke the truth?
the flapping of your goat lips never ceases to amaze us mr. minivan man.

please lay out your reasoning for why racing takes a trust fund in standard essay format.

this is also commonly referred to as a five paragraph essay with an introduction, body paragraphs and one conclusion. there needs to be a thesis statement, the body should support this thesis and the conclusion needs to summarize the main points. somewhere between 1000~1500 words. this needs to be logically organized and flow together smoothly.

I know what VE is, but don’t believe I’ve heard of VP.
I was joking, every time we talk 318's the v/p and ve police come out and say it can't be done even though people like 318willrun proves them wrong.

It's not those things don't have merit but there's is more to performance then those items some hyper fixate on.

Want to read about it click here

Cam Timing vs. Compression Analysis

" *V/P (Volume/Pressure) Index is a mathematically-derived figure, the product of the corrected volume and cranking pressure. It’s a very useful barometer of the motor’s low-speed power, and may be solved with new variables for a “before & after” analysis when modifications are contemplated. Anyone planning a cam or compression ratio change would definitely want to know how much the low-speed flexibility would be affected. Some useful insight may also be derived as to the motor’s tolerance of pump-quality gas (ping & knock resistance). The results of these comparisons are generally quite surprising!"

Please explain, is it money or lack of knowledge and know how.
knowledge and know how beats money every time.
What's your point of view on the matter. if it's not money
It's become costly to compete, a quality pair of cylinder heads are like $2400. Port work

Build a bracket engine and let me know what it cost you. I looked up a set of pistons earlier today and they were over a grand.

Ask yourself one question: Who am I competing with??
As for me, I could give less than a two toed Duck what anyone thinks of my builds or what they run. 100% couldn't care less. It's for me, my way, my money, my fun! And if the world is in the 3's on the street's in the 1/8 mile, well jippity joppity for them! I'm truly happy for them. If my van runs a 10.9 in the 1/8, I'm having just as much fun. :) :)

any motor can be a bracket motor. i don't think you understand what bracket racing is.

i don't know wtf pistons you're looking at but 1K is some custom forged slugs.

it's okay danimal, you can just say you don't know. that you don't have any experience in the matter.

Braket engine is the easiest of all engines to build. I can do one for 500 bucks. Sportsman class is HUGE at any track. A stock 5.2 or 5.9 magnum, chinese intake and a 4bbl. Your set. Go rounds and win!

Your one of the few that prove that having a fun car can be affordable.
