Lets build an engine for my dart.

Heres the rules.
91 pump gas.
360 factory block.
MSD Digital 7+
6-71 roots supercharger.

I want as wild as we can get while still being able to drive to breakfast on Sunday with the women.

Edit- the car currently has a built 904, 3,800 stall, Ford 9" with 4.88s on 35 spline spool.
29x10.5x15 Hoosier DOT drag radials.

I'm still trying to get my head around this one, Lol! Do you already have a 360 block you have in mind?
 
what year of block (is it a roller cam block?) and do you have any particular set of heads your going to use?
 
I like the stroker kit especially for the street, it's just tire twisting torque right off the pedal...
 
How often to you plan on running it at full power? With the 6-71, we are in T/A, X, or R block territory here. Of course head studs are mandatory, and I would be looking at the SCE copper with the embossed Neoprene Printo-Seal gaskets here. I would be considering a Hughes girdle and main stud kit with some Milodon main caps. But I would also be considering one of the 3.79 or 4 inch cranks and some upper end connecting rods like Molnar. Also, what heads are you considering running?

What is the falure point of a stock 360 block?

600HP? 800HP?
 
Constant use over the 550 hp mark is generally regarded as the tipping point for a regular production 360 block. What your talking about building would be capable of exceeding that number by a large amount.

My 408 was approaching 600hp n/a, when I pulled it to freshen it up the main and cam bearings showed signs of block flex. That's why I bought the R1 engine. If I were going to make big power with a production block I'd do a short fill in the block to try to stabilize the cylinders. Plus front and mid plates.

This and $2.50 will buy you a cup of coffee in some places.

Well looks like im almost at block failure right now with my existing NA build.

I sure as snot aint gonna spend all this money and make 50 more HP. Thats just stupid.

R blocks I've been finding are floating around 3-4k for the block...

Expensive... But damn would it be cool to build a w8 engine... Fuckin Rowdy lol
 
I think it's going to be difficult to get 800 HP on 91 pump gas with a blower. That's gonna take more boost than 91 can handle, IMO......and I've built a few blower motors.
 
My guy thinks he can do it with meth injection.

Another 3-4 grand is gonna hurt.....

May have to put this on hold until i get some more fun duckets and a block worth using.

What do you think about an AC to the car? I've got it on my brain lately... What are we going to do loose some power?
Probably just slip the belt off for real action...
 
Im doing a restomod Bantum2 install now (customer car) and i will say i am not impressed.

So i guess i will just continue to sweat my balls off...

:)
 
Im not sure on the BTU, I will check.

I will say the "kit" is garbage. It has no business on a high end build the way it comes out of the box. (And it was not cheep, customer supplied the kit but im sure it was not cheep.)


I knew the block was gonna be an issue but i had no idea how close to the limit i was on my last build.

Major bummer. Im already over 15 grand into parts and another 4 is gonna be hard to swing.
I dont want to risk hurting the rotating assembly when the block fails.

I guess im gonna have to put the build back on the shelf for another year or so.

At this point if im gonna spend 4 grand just on the block then heads i may as well just go alky and make some real steam......

sigh.....
 
How the heck dose one even buy a race block?

Its not like i will find one down the street. I guess a small deposit then the owner takes it to a machine shop for inspection before i pay the remainder?

I don't think you're going to have all that much trouble building huge horsepower if you're not going to get it on a prepped surface...
