One time when we was still in school he was livin here with me .and He had his DL and i didnt . He had a H passport. that he drove to school so i road with him ..... We would always take the back roads . Well i was riding and reading a MOPAR book . and We are going at a good clip . (I didnt know this ) lol And i fell the passport Nose down . Hear the wheels lock up on dirt . And then chuck sayin oh **** oh **** oh **** ! ...... So this made me want to look and see whats goin on lmao ...... The book went flyin to the back seat as he was bout to miss the turn . There is trees in front of us lol ..... So now we are both sayin oh **** oh **** ....... Sure enough it jumped the ditch and missed ever Live tree and just ran over one dead one that was already on the ground lmao .
 
I don't have any picture to post, but when gas prices went crazy, I started towing my race car with my 1986 Toyota PU ( 4 cyl/5 speed), instead of the RV. People thought I was nuts. But it is a one ton rated truck with a towing package. I have been on the scales at 9,980 lbs total (not usually that heavy), and get 18 mpg at that weight. Last month I towed from Florida to Maryland, and came back by way of Tennesse, total 2300 miles, and got 19 mpg. I have probably towed over 40,000 miles over the years.

Stupidest tow I ever did was towing a 1963 Ford Galaxie, with a 64 Dodge Dart (170 slant six/3speed stick), from Rochester NY, to Northwestern NJ, with a bumper to bumper tow bar, in 1965.
 
Many car makers today have gone overboard and warn against towing ANYTHING... can you imagine a manufacturer actually proposing that you pull a stunt like this? (see attached Valiant).

Did you notice the "note"? Trailer towing package not available with the 273 engine. Tell you anything about the slant six?:D:D:D

Lol, Chuck sounded a tad dangerous to ride with back then. I hope he has improved since.....

oh you have those out there that believe towing anything with a car is "stupid". "That's what trucks are for". Piss on them. If I had an a body with enough balls to tow a boat and don't have any use for a truck bed, then Why do I need a truck?

In my defense, a vehicle was not too far ahead of us on this gravel road and I drove in to his damn dust cloud. I was already slowing down, but didn't realize that I was a lot closer to that corner than I though.
 
I towed a 70 'Cuda and "all my possessions" which admittedly weren't much, other than quite a bit of tools from San Diego to N Idaho with the old '70 RR. Admittedly, it had the heaviest suspension you could get, having been a 440-6 car. "It was loaded right" and the trailer had fair brakes. That thing handled excellent. There was no sign of the tail wagging the dog, and on a section of windy Oregon highway, it handled as good as anything else on the road back then.

I remember being VERY PO'd at some idiot in a VeeDub which I passed at least TWICE. He'd get the silly thing wound up going downhill and go sailing past, but down on a flat stretch I'd be wanting around him!! I freekin HATED hippies and vee dubs back then.

It's prolly a good thing I didn't have a pickup with a push bumper

Gee, Del, I don't really know you, but I'm sorry, I was going as fast as I could with my trusty ole hippie van. At least I could speed up on the downhills. That was a long time ago! Lol, maybe I just wanted another look at your Roadrunner towing a Cuda! Anyway, hope there's no hard feelings. I've converted to Mopar now and I quit smoking pot. :glasses7:

You Just need to learn how to properly balance the load on a trailer....
My grandfather towed much heavier with a bigger trailer with his ole 78 350 4 Speed 4x4 Jimmy without the wheels off the ground
 
I remember a while back a girl joined here and left in disgust when we warned her about towing her 66 Cuda from Colorado to Florida behind her Subaru! Wonder if she ever made it?? Geof

lol it was worse than that. She wanted to use a Honda crx! all she needed to do was watch the second episode of roadkill to know why it was a bad idea. They tried to flat tow a 55 chevy behind a 60's ranchero! Lol

I am guilty of some dumb towing. My buddy had one of those U-Haul tow bars that hooked to the front bumper and frame with hooks and chains. I helped a buddy move from south fl to bithlo fl flat towing a 56 crown vic with a 73 ranchero. We made it but just by the grace of God and the state trooper that let us go for no lights if we tape a flashlight to the trunk lid. I surprised people weren't killed towing with those tow bars. Very hard on front bumpers too. It is amazing we survived our youth lol.
 
Years ago I bought a Challenger and had to find a way to get it home. I borrowed a buddy's 3/4 ton Ford and got a dolly from U-Haul. The haul was about 200+ miles from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh on the PA Turnpike. There is a minimum speed on the turnpike of 45 MPH and anytime I got over 55 MPH the car and dolly would start to fishtail. As is typical of the turnpike, there was construction which routed opposing traffic through the same tube of a tunnel that's about 1/2 mile long. There was no room for error at that point as the wheels of the dolly were almost a lane wide and there were 18 wheelers coming at me. I was holding my breath and sh!tt!ng twinkies the whole way through just thinking about a demolished Chally and bad tunnel accident. We made it home OK but I'd never do that again. Not with a dolly at that speed.
