Anyone have any experience with centereach automotive machine shop in Suffolk?

I'm looking to get my 340 rebuilt real soon. I had a sbc rebuilt by westchester crankshaft(did an excellent job) out by flushing, queens but I think they changed management and employees, so I'm a bit skeptical at this point. Any recommendations as far as machine shops would be appreciated. Looking to avoid sk speed. Nothing personal, just too pricey.

There down the street from me. Almost walkable.

SO, I walked in, asked the guy behind the counter if he had a MoPar guy back there. NO

I asked if he had a plate for small blocks when they bore and hone. No, yes, er no Ummm. wiat, .....Yes.

If it takes more than 3 minutes to come back with an answer, the answer is no. Sorry, my beilef and trust just got flushed down the toilet with there response and way of response.

I listened to a freind of mine from work and went to Elsasser. He's 20 min. from me, eastbound. In Miller Place @ 840 Rt. 25A corner of tyler ave. (631-744-7370)

His prices are reasonable. Does good work. Has racers running his engines often at Riverhead. I could have gone to Merkel race engines. (L.I.E. exit 57/58 ish) or a slew others, but price is a factor, not quality of work. I can't aford to boil the block at Merkel.

I'll be assembling the engine myself. I just need good machine work at a decent price for a street engine. I'm not looking for 6500rpm all day long.

Theres gotta be someone closer to you.

I used Merkel 2 years ago.

Balance the rotating assembly, polished crank, installed cam bearings, distributor bushing, and glass beaded the intake.

They did a really good job, and very fast turnaround time. I did all the other assembly myself.

Thanks. What a shame. I guess finding decent guys and machinery is becoming non existant. I suppose you get what you pay for. If someone comes up with someone a little further west, that'd be great.

Hemi dave (hogan race motors) is the Best on L.I. for Mopar motors, Period !!

Well that didn't help a whole lot! LOL!

Rob, If I remember right he was located in Wantaugh off of 135 & Sunrise Hwy.

Holy crap, had no idea how many of you guys are from there.
I'm from Brooklyn, and lived in Elmont for like 8 years.

My plate says ETMYDRT. LOL

Theres a bunch more of us island guys here.I should really just say lower N.Y.ers, city & just north and on out to the farms out east. Most sit on the side lines content to read.

Bobby has since retired and is restoring cars in his, eh-hem, retirement from everyday shop service. He's a good man and ace Chrysler mechanic and loves them big time.

Mopar specialists.....

See Jimmy at V&V, or Fontana....

Fontana is ridiculously expensive. $700 for a balance job. My con rods & crank were all ready done and he wanted 700 more.
