it is about in production. i have a buddy in maintenance there. them being here should open up alot of oportunities around here for work.

IM considering looking in to it,, the climate,,area,, and VW,,,, how far along is the building??? and time of hiring???

a few years ago i had a tip that BMW was expanding in S,CAROLINA,, i was considering it but my thinking then was,, they would be more intrested in hiring some one from the area that was out of work,,rather then some one that had a job that would have to relocate,, maybe the same with VW,,,

i used to live in spatanburg,sc. i interviewed with BMW when they were just opening. they had a hell of a interview process! got almost to the end of them and said the hell with it. i am not sure how VW is doing it,but i know you can do it online. of course, better chances if you have a TN address.

i would love to move south which is in my near future. im looking at going to north carolina around statesville area or mt.airy. havent really thought much about tennesee although if i could ever get my house sold , i would be interested in looking into your area. sounds nice being near the mountains and all.

N.C. is a beautiful state with alot to offer. but do your homework. some emissions testing and taxes eat you up!

We moved here to the Clayton area 3 years ago from Massachusetts and I can honestly say it was the best thing that could have happened to us. After losing my house to foreclosure due to my surgeries in 04' there was not much to look forward to. Barely had any work when I left. So to NC we came and as soon as I arrived, I had a job the first day I was here. And a house the first week. Wife had a job in about 3 weeks after arriving. Even though 18 months later we lost everything except the Duster in the house fire, I can honestly say my family and myself were overwhelmed at the kindness and generosity we received from total strangers, some of them now my best friends. As for employment it really is what you make of it. I lost my job after being here 2 1/2 yrs and used a measly $800.00 investment in my van ( I already had my tools) and was able to start my own appliance installation/repair business. I now have a contract with Sears for installations and it is going very well. All in all I agree that it can be hard and there is always a lot of uncertainty about relocating but if you keep praying and have faith and stay the course, Anything is possible!!!

they better build some better **** than they are building now! hard to beat a toyota/nissan/subaru and now hyundai. i have worked on my share of late vw's for friends, and thier engineering sucks!
i work for a jap supplier, basically a toyota division, but will buy one of the big three musclecars next.

glad to hear it all worked out for you and your family,, you know as well as i do,,you would of NEVER got that kind of help from your neighbors here in the mid atlantic region,, but ive heard horror stories of people in NC not wanting north easterners living in there area permenitly,, glad it worked out for you,, not to sure what part of NC you are in,,

appliance installer huh,,, intresting i had 3 years of appliance repair when i was in high school, alternating from high school to tech school,,,,

you cant imagine the excuses people have used and gotten disablitly for where i work,, a lot of minoritys know how to work the system,,,,they have used stress,,, mental stress,,diabeaties, high blood pressure,, and im sure i forgot a few,, in 1987 mr toyota made a statement,,at that time those miny toyota trucks were very popular,,,after he made this statement " americans are stupid and lazy" those trucks seemed to dissapear and big american trucks seemed to get popular,,,,

after moving back east here i see the lazyness he talked about,,,one of the many reasons there arent jobs in america,,,,,americans dont wanna work,,,they just wanna talk on there cell phone,,

That area of Tennessee/Smoky Mountains is an absolutely amazing place. If we didn't have 10+ years left of military relocation and a mortgage I would be all over it.

How about moving west? I could use a good general mechanic out here around 95407. Must be willing to work with limited budget, get payed 20 or so, answer phone at any time, and pass a drug test. Tour bus hell is waiting for the right applicant.

WRACKS Youre right ... why would somebody want a VW Diesel that gets 50-60 mpg and over 300000 miles before needing engine work I would rather buy a Toyota ....????? I think you are stuck in the 60's vw era
GO SOUTH >>> get a job at the VW plant..... German engineering taking over! best diesel ... best quattro....
I am hoping my company in the near future ... goes SOUTH ....

ok. how about. 1998 TOYOTA 4runner. 248,000 miles. been laid on its side by the wife in bad weather, burns a half a quart of oil in 5,0000 mi. the oil never looks dirty,i started changing it at 10,000 mi because it is clean until then! daughter is now driving it to college. i had a used 1982 toyota 4x4 just out of high school. when i sold it it was showing 330+ on it and i know it had more because i always ran big tires on it. wheeled it and mud bogged it every weekend. never put a u-joint in it! oil, timing chains, and a ring and pinion at 250,000!
i have a buddy that bought a brand new passat diesel i think it was. loved the mileage, couldn't work on it without special tools, cost him a furtune for repairs. mind you he is an industrial mechanic! he said it just isn't worth it. i tried to tell him that when he bought it!
my mom has had like six subaru's. superior all wheel drive, and a great car all the way around. that is why they ruled world ralley racing!
sorry but i will take a '60's era bus first.

you're talking about companies with decades of making automobiles. How many 1985 Ford Escorts are around today? Or 1978 Diplomats? Auto companies change with the times. That being said, VW has had many more good years than bad, and is most definitely an engineering icon in the industry.

yea, well yugo has been around for decades as well, and look what happened to them. you don't even see 10-20 year old vw's on the road like you do jap cars. because they are a P.O.S.
this thread is about selling my property anyway.

hey a friend of mine is headed to franklin tn next week,,,he will be carring several 340 x head motors and a fresh 472 hemi,,looking for storage and a new home,,,,then a job i guess,,,,
