Low buck 360 build

If you guys are saying black rtv will be fine then I'll go that route. I already have that wheras I'd have to make another purchase for the Indian head.

Gotta wonder what the history behind that branding. Super odd.

Yea, the RTV is fine. The plugs just need to driven in & sit flush when there fully seated in. The RTV takes up any small gaps that might be present and not seen.

I use this tar..

Carb is back together. Not a show car piece but but it'll hopefully provide good service and performance for what I'm doing. Replaced all gaskets and faulty PV and accelerator pump diaphragm. Used good gaskets with a bit of petroleum jelly film so the next guy can service it easily.

Been awhile since I posted anything on this. I've been working on some other projects associated with the build, more in that to come.

Anyway yesterday I welded up some 3" - 2-1/2" reducers on some old junk headers I have laying around. Planning on just using these for engine break ins so just welded on the reducers permanently. I'll weld on an extension pipe which can clamp mufflers on today.

Only other stuff left to do is attach the alternator, and pulleys, and fill the cooling system and it'll be ready to test run. There's a chance it runs today.

I'll post up some pics and if it runs I'll try to make a video.

Well boys here she is in all her glory! It's got a bit of a misfire on the left bank I can't quite figure out but it's either a plug wire or something with the distributor. All vitals seem alright.

You can also see the test stand kit I've been working on. I plan to market this here soon. Still needs some refinement on the radiator mounting though.

Anyway I'm pleased so far. Hopefully next weekend I can get the misfiring sorted out. Should run pretty good then!

Minor update. Like I said before I was having a misfire. I decided to just replace the distributor and plug wires at the same time. No messing around. I had suspected that either the distributor or the wires were a problem.

Anyhow, I went to fire it up yesterday and it was MUCH better! It sounds healthy now. If I get around to dragging it back out today I'll try to post up a video of it running.

Has good oil pressure, running about 50psi at idle, warm.

Having a tough time getting it to idle down but I haven't played much with the timing and basic carburetor tune. I can idle it to about 900 then it starts getting inconsistent. I'm sure the timing is way off though so once I have haia chance to actually tune it a bit it should be good to drop into the car.

great progress

excited to hear it run

You may need to check the secondaries. Sometimes they are cracked open a little too far to allow it to idle down.

The cam you have, if it is the DEH, should easily idle at 700-750 rpm. Actually even lower.

Sounded more like 1050hp to me.

Here's an update. Had a chance to play with the timing and idle. Still a bit high but it's good enough where I can get it in the car and fine tune from there.

Oil pressure looks good, water temp stable in the 180s, afr's a tad rich but I'll play with that and it'll get better. Also at the moment vacuum advance isn't hooked up so that will definitely help.

Did you make the starter bracket yourself or buy it? What flexplate are you using there?

Good catch!

I made both of these things and I anticipate including them in my kit offering once I get that set up.

Really like how you set that up to make it a test stand. That was some good thinking on your part. What do you think a kit is going to run money wise?

That is a nice setup for sure. I already have a run stand that I cobbled together though a long time ago.

I bought one of those starter bracket things on ebay a long time ago for a big block. Haven't seen one for sale for a small block yet though.

I don't have the costing exactly worked out, but I'll have something set up on here soon. I don't want to step outside of my boundaries here breaking forum rules etc. Once I have the vendor forum set up I'll be sure to have some full package information set up for everyone to see.
