massive reconfiguration time again.

Well I guess I should post up a time slip ..
I didn't give a hard launch, it was perfect for a first test run. No one in the next lane, first few passes and race traffic still a little slow coming in. I felt it was a nice first pass, I was able to take my time and remember to look at the r/f Gage!(finally)

Nice Pass!

Wife and I drove to the track, took 4 passes, went out for a scenic drive(with spirited driving-wife VERY not happy), had nice bbq dinner and back home. About 52 miles total. 6 gallons....

^^ I found THIS to be the best way to enjoy these hot rods. We do the exact same, drive to the strip, eat on the way home, and our trip to the track is all scenic. Only it's about 100 miles total for us.

NICE PASS ! spinning ? 60' sucks ! sweet mph !

yeah, 110 mph is good enough for very low 12's. Clutch car on a 9" street tire in street form, though, is a lot more challenging. 2.0 isn't terrible, but would need at least a 1.75 to move very low 12's at 110

The first pass is always the slowest. Especially when I get on a mission to look at other things than et. I had bad air last night as well. According to the correction calculator I should have been a couple miles an hour faster and a couple tenths quicker. Also had a pretty decent headwind. I definitely felt that with all the correct things in place (also according to my other Time Slips) it has a very low 12 if not better in it...

So when I pull up into Tech a young kid pulls up next to me with his girlfriend in a newer charger. I noticed he had drag radials and the Hemi 392 badges. I talked to him and he said it was his first time at the track and I asked him if he done any modifications? he said he put some computer chip in there that released some of the Hellcat? Features? Line lock ect.. he said it was supposed to do mid to low 12's according to his research. After that first pass I went and looked for him and he said he didn't have anybody to race against lol and I said let's go.. well they didn't put numbers in his window so when we got up to the line they made him go back. And I took another single pass. So then we both get into line together and I noticed I hadn't put my numbers on the front windshield so I come over and get my marker and the little shoe polish tip shot off and I splurged yellow paint all over my windshield my helmet and me...
At the front of the staging Lanes of course... I grabbed an old t-shirt out of my tool bag and sopped up what I could. Needless to say I have a little cleanup today...

Scat Pak's with traction should go high 11's. I've seen a few go through with stock wheels and they got 12.3's and 12.4's.

Next story, (this is where the wife gets pissed) on the way home a kid rev's his little Honda car next to us... Open stretch in front of us and I know the kid wants a rolling start so I obliged him at about 35. (I think we all know from a standing still he would have just seen tail lights) I knew third gear was way too high at the speed but I wasn't feeling like getting overly radical. Of course he dumped it into what seems like first gear LOL and got a fender on me for a second, but as you can well imagine when 3rd gear started hitting its torque band my Fender was out front and right about as my wife's yelling was turning into yelling and cursing I hit 4th gear and was starting to leave him and let off heavily....

It seems like a pretty big four door car plus it was the kids very first pass ever I imagine he was spinning tires pretty good. Although I wasn't there for any of that..

Same engine as my son's. I can tell ya, without traction, mid 12's would be a good run. But, they run 112-113 mph, so the power is there, have to get it to the ground. My son has had some races with some performance cars, and they go from a 30 mph roll. He destroyed that 6.1 LS SS Camaro I posted a picture of a while back. A hopped up Nova SS leaving a car show, and a bunch of other stuff.... LOL. I hope he is careful... worries me.

3rd gear at 35 ? you really obliged him... LOL

Glad to see you got past that 13.7 or whatever it was the last time that you ran it.
That 13-7 was total Street Tire practice passes. I did not even give it half throttle in first and second gear. Even the passes last night we're not an all out effort...
I'm really impressed with these Nitto 555 is for sure. I think if I was to take the car for an all-out effort at Woodburn I can do several things and get the car in very low 12 if not better..
First off I seem to do much better at Woodburn as the track prep the second to none. The air is usually a little better there and the track is faced typically downwind.. I can try putting my tires down to about 16 to 18 lb instead of the normal 25 that I run around town. No doubt a little bit more carburetor tuning from what my AF was saying. And definitely a much harder launch...
Also for a super all-out effort I could lose close to 200lbs with an hour or so work..

I told the kid you got to leave at the last yellow LOL if you see that green light come on it's too late...
I thought the kid did good on his first past. Must be nice to have a 12-second car the first time you're at the drag strip. I told him to stay calm and that the first time I came to the drag strip with this particular car and it's old motor I was in the mid-16s LOL...

I like no favors at the strip. No head wind or tail wind. Not super hot, or super cool. Some tracks have a couple degree downhill run. I want to know what I have, not have anything help or hurt. Our track is level.

Yes we seem to have two very different tracks. The closest one PIR is generally in the evening, Sun setting right in your eyeballs with a headwind and no prep. On the other hand Woodburn is usually in the morning and early afternoon with full prep and generally a bit of a Tailwind if any and the Sun comes from the left and goes over to the right. Both of them are level but also it's what I have to work with. Of course if I had a choice I would like a track that was even all the way around...

Agree.... even all the way around. I've been to different tracks, but only raced at Cordova. It's been there since the 40's, and legends like Arnie the Farmer started there. He still hangs out there. Last year my machine shop guy was driving the tameless tiger there, working out some issues. Arnie is very old, but still moves around well. Doesn't race anymore, though

Easily had a half second difference between the two tracks within a short period of time. Same setup. Jumping between the two tracks for years now it almost seems like I expect to go a half second faster at Woodburn...

I've heard of a couple tenths difference between tracks, but I suppose traction could easily move that up to a 1/2 second. I know people that race between 3 tracks in our area, and say .15 faster at the other two. Some say their car ran the same. I think weather may play that small difference as well.
  • Cordova is at 600 ft, flat, open to sun (race east starting afternoons, so sun isn't in eyes), summer 80s-90's temp, we have humidity, but prepped well for traction.

At my elevation srt's and scatpacks are lucky to get mid to low 13s. Always fun seeing them in the rear view as well as their shocked expressions.
