Ok guys,I have a question. When my dart was stored last winter it developed a small amoudt of mold on the rear deck.I'm looking for ideas for cleaning the mold off.It is the original and would like to save it.What cleaners could I use that wont wash out the black finish?Going to a show this weekend and would like to get it cleaned up . Thanks

What kind of material is it? And what kind of finish?

The car must have been in a dark damp place.
Dont dry brush the mold. The mold spores cause respritory problems, more so for the sensitive and /or allergic.
Tap water has clorine in it and will kill the mold. A little stonger mix of clorox and water with a sponge is what I would suggest. Then out into the sunlight and let the sun kill the rest of it.

I had stored the car at my father in laws garage.I had put a nice heavy car cover on it but after I left,he thought it needed more and put a blue tarp on top of that.Spring comes and I go to get the car.I ask about the extra cover and he was just trying to do good. The cover comes off and the car was trashed.interior, under hood, all had mold and corrosion damage. The lesson learned is check on your ca even if its in a safe place. The panel is made frome a fiberboard materel and is painted or dyed black.

The package shelf can be dyed withh SEM Landau black but that board soaks up a LOT of dye. Lysol disinfectant cleaner and water on the upholstery and carpet, then again, sunlight.

I wouldn't use anything with water. Use Lysol or ammonia (same stuff) would work. I think bleach would be too much. Don't use acetone or 91% or above rubbing alcohol (try to avoid completely but if you must). Use something to try and keep it very dry like silcia packets. I would also try Goo Gone, Fabreeze, and something like that. But small amounts of water.

Secure an Ozone machine and put it in the car. Stay out of the car when it is plugged in. The Ozone machine will kill the mold and then it is safe to brush off and clean up.
Most equipment rental places here have them for rent in my area. They are heavily used in areas where water damage has occured.

Be careful whatever you do. Mold spores can cause respiratory issues, even if you kill them.
One of the things that causes mold is moisture, and adding more water won't solve the problem. Bleach doesn't activate unless you add water, and at the highest concentration of 4 parts water to 1 part bleach. Normal household concentration is 10:1.
You would be better off to find a product that is made for mold remediation. Also remember that you can't mix different products like bleach, and ammonia. If you do, you'll get the dreaded "chlorine cloud of death". Do a google search for mold remediation to get a better idea how to procede. Tim

We use to use baking soda to kill mold on our boat, but I'm not sure what it would do to the finish on the package tray.

To remove mold, mildew and their odor from upholstered auto seats, products with peroxide and detergents will restore the car interior. This both removes the stain and deactivates the odor. Simply spray a citrus cleaner product on the soiled area. Wait about five minutes for it to penetrate. Using a clean white absorbent cloth, blot the area, pressing down firmly without rubbing for 30 seconds. Repeat this blotting process until the area is dry. If the stain or odor persists, repeat the process. As an alternative, you could create a cleaning mixture by combining 1/4 teaspoon of color safe bleach and 1/4 cup of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide. With a clean cloth, gently rub the stain until it is gone. Rinse the area with clear, warm water and dry thoroughly.

And be very careful using a ozone generator misuse can make you very sick and can be deadly. Too much Ozone is also hard on plastics and vinyl parts, small amounts of clean water is fine to do a final rinse you just have to make sure you dry it well.

At work I have my contractors use a product called Benefect Disinfectant & Fungicide which is a 100% naturel and has a nice lemon & clove scent:profilel:

And use a specialised HEPA vacuum to clean large moldy areas up.

I had some mold issues in a rental property I own and my wife found on line that "bleach'' should not be used as it does not kill the mold. I think it said most any household cleaner without bleach is acceptable.
I get mold inside my cars in the garage, winter or summer I get condensation.
In the summer the garage stays cooler then outside but when I open the doors I get condensation..in the winter the garage is cold, I turn on the heater and I get condensation...

"bleach'' was used at first but it was in industrial strength concentration about anywhere from 20-50 % Ammonia.Problems are Bleach is not an effective or lasting killer of toxic mold growth and mold spores on and inside porous, cellulose building materials such as wood timbers, drywall, plasterboard, particleboard, plywood, plywood substitutes, ceiling tiles, and carpeting/padding.

Bleach creates toxic fumes and can cause a health injury
Bleach can damage and discolor surfaces
Bleach does not kill all molds especially if not in proper mix or application.
Bleach must not used on carpeting
Bleach alone will not solve your hidden mold. Generally all you see is 10% of the mold - the rest is hidden.

Now to Kill mold hydrogen peroxide solution with a comercial detergent is used.

Other natural mold removal alternatives:
- Tea Tree Oil
- Baking soda

And mostly since I deal with is large mold comtamitated areas large scale dry ice blasters and Mold killing Biocide are being used.
