Manley said no go for warm retorque. I will leave it alone. It was false alarm on my side. I should have cleaned the water jacket before putting coolant in there.so if you're removing the valve covers to fit baffles will you retorque the heads too?
neil.
What were you getting out of that first cam? That's the one I'm looking at for my '68 Barracuda, I've got a stock stroke 400, about 10:1 cr.As this is my only problem I'm very tempted to tap oiling holes in my cam, put set screws there and call it a day... No oil pressure there, no leak...
I really am! ;-)
I was about to install my target cam in it next week.
From this cam:

I changed coolant yesterday and drove the car a lot today and found minimal residue in the coolant. Will monitor this...

GreatCar sorted and dynoed: 695hp@6800 and 640ftlb@4400 with 34 degrees of advance. Numbers are good so I didn’t even try playing with timing and jetting. This test was just to see what gains I get from cam swap.
I’m planning to take the heads off and mill them down to bring the compression up to 11.5:1 with cam swap. New cam should work better like this.
I sat down with my numbers and I discovered that I’ve made a mistake. This engine is 10.83:1 at this point.
Will also do test with 250 shot of nitrous, I gapped the rings for lots of nitrous.
I think if done properly this will work well, but in the end I didn’t sleeve my block.Guy over here just paid 1000 for a 340 w/8 sleeves. Bought block outright already done. Local shop has some motors that were ditched because they were worn out n used up...so they've been just sleeviing them and putting up for sale.
Hello everyone!
To start, I am in Europe and getting a 400 block here is near impossible... Importing one from USA is around 1500-1800$ after all the shipping and taxes...
So I had an idea to sleeve it in all 8 cylinders and re-use the pistons that are already in it.
Is there anything against what I plan to do?
I talked to 440source about it and they told me its not a bad idea especially given that it will cost me around 1000$ done with Mahle sleeves.
The pistons that are in it will be sent to line2line coating for ceramic coat on skirts. Normally they media blast them to get better adhesion of ceramic coating. This will give me a chance to see how good their coatings really are. The block is currently .030" over and it will not clean up at anything but .050"
Any feedback would be nice before I start putting money into this idea ;-)
Thank you.

This is the closest to my initial idea.

Im not worried, can’t wait for the cam!Jim is like a "cam guy's cam guy", you won't go wrong taking his advice. He custom ground a cam for the 360/5.9 Magnum in my Duster and I couldn't be happier with it; performs amazingly, sounds awesome and has excellent street manners. Looking to get a custom cam from him for my truck 440 build as well.
Its in…
I 1st put it in on dots with no advance or retard and it came out at 100icl
Had to retard 4 degrees to make it right.
Can’t wait to hear it run!
