Mopar small block fan routing diagram

I have a 340 that I put in my 73 dart and I am not sure on the belt diagram for it. I do not have AC. I believe it would be two belts One for the alternator and one for the power steering pump. But I'm not sure of the diagram on either one or the belt sizes. I have gotten several belts from my local parts store but none seem to fit right. So any information would be helpful thank you
 
This should be about the simplest install going. The fact that you are having a tough time, seems to indicate that something is not right with the pulley system. So, I think you are gonna have to provide some pictures

(wrote this thinking it was the same as my A/C equipped LA, so, nevermind)

you run one belt over the back of the crank shaft pulley to the alternator (use the alternator to tension it)
then run a second belt from the front of the crank shaft pulley over the water pump and the power steering pump (use the power steering pump to tension it)


you only need one belt on the alternator, but you have two grooves on that pulley so they can use the same alternator on cars with A/C (which take two belts) and without A/C (which only take one)


if you run the alternator and powersteering pump in, you can run a string around the proper pulleys, measure it and that is the size belt you need (I seem to remember the water/powesteering one is 45 inches, but I'm not sure)



(and on a side note, this post will likely get moved to the small block mopar section, you posted it in the "early A" section, which is for pre 67 A bodies)

ok, here is a clear picture of a non A/C LA
this should make it clear



first you run crank-waterpump-alternator
then you run crank-powersteering pump
 
I just figured I shouldn't have to measure. I thought the auto parts store should be able to get the right belt. Thanks for the info.
 
boy your in for a treat...just wait until you walk up to the counter, tell them what your working on and hear them say "according to my computer dodge didn't make cars before 1985"


I'm sure the information your looking for is out there (might even pop up with a simple google search) but why not measure and be sure?
your working on a 40 plus year old car, the possibility something has changed, or someone has swapped pulleys at some point in those 40 years is definitely there
 
That W/P pulley does not look right to me, and the alternator looks to be too far back.
I have not had an A/C car for many years, but non-A/C cars always had the P/S run a separate belt by itself and it goes on last;just like in mirages post.
Check out Mirages pic, that is exactly how everything is supposed to look like. Notice also the support bracket BEHIND the P/S bracket.Notice the shapes of all the pulleys. And especially notice the alternator mounting bushing/spacers. With non-stock heads you usually have to offset the alternator to properly line up with BOTH the crank pulley and the W/P pulley. This often requires shimming and or bending the brackets and the adjuster strap, or digging through the parts bin for a better fitting part.Make sure the short bushings are in the alternator mounting ears.
If you had all stock, correct vintage parts, then an off-the-shelf belt would work. But I don't see any stock parts on there except maybe the P/S pulley. The dual alt-pulley did not work on my car, which looks exactly like in mirages post.I had to swap it out for a single grooved one. I slowed my pump and alt down as much as I could, with raiding the parts shed, cuz I just knew I'd be missing a shift now and then. And flipping a belt off is all too easy with the stock ratios

That alternator bracket does not look right to me...

After looking at the picture diymirage provided I agree the w/p pulley doesn't look right. It looks like it should sit back further. Is that a spacer I see on the p/s pump?
 
I was talking about the long bolt that runs through the bracket of the power steering pump. Is there a spacer that the bolt goes through in between the brackets?
 
In that case yes. It is triangular in shape and spans the two driver's side W/P bolts, and then moves out towards the fender and supports the pump. I'd guess it's about 3 to 4 inches up either side, and around 5 along the bottom.
In post #8, I called it a support bracket
 
I'm thinking after looking online that I do not have the right water pump pulley. Is there different kinds of water pump pulley's for the small block Mopar's?
 
About how long is that spacer for the p/s pump. I can get a scrap piece of tubing from work or where can you buy it?
 
Proper belt routing assuming you have the correct crank pulley is

Rear belt on the crank goes from the crank,water pump and alt
Front belt on the crank goes to the ps pump.
