So I am building the 273 in my 67 dart GT it's 30 over and has 360 swirl port cop car heads milled spun the bearings and got the crank hot . Have the 30 over 10:5.1 Pistons from egee and thinking about using the 4 inch egle crank. I know guys say it won't be able to breath but I don't see a problem with the 360 heads. That I was already running on it however I am going to put umbrella valves in. Just clearance issues left Maby. And yes it would be nice just to put a 318 or 340 but I want to keep her numbers matching. This car very low original miles had the certicard in excellent condition original radiator hose with the blue stripe still like new . Anyway any advice or opinions. Anyone out there try this. Thanks mopar brother's and sister's

So the heads are 308 castings? Hell, I say go for it. That's what hot roddin is all about. Only thing though, I don't believe anyone makes an off the shelf piston so you're probably going to have to go custom. Plenty of companies out there will do it though.

Hey thanks your right that is what hot roding is all about. I believe so on the casting they came off a 78 diplomat cop car. And I already have the pistons from. Egee they wher a little more than half the price of the steel foged pistons from RSP. Wich wher 1200 hundred little bit more than I wanted to spend but it would be really to pu dual super chargers on it.

SO the pistons have the correct compression height for the 4" crank? 273 pistons will not work on a 4" crank.

"thinking about using a 4" Eagle crank" The point the guys were trying to make is that the Egge pistons are for the stock crank. A 4" stroke crank will require different pistons that no one makes. They will need to be custom made.

I think Cadillac? made pistons in or close to a 273's bore with a shorter compression distance? Maybe do some research and the math?

A 4" crank in a .030 over 273 block will make a 335 CI motor. Find a 5.9 Magnum block to stroke with the 4" crank and make a 408 CI motor. Save your correct date coded 273 to build back with a new crank later.

I'm looking at a 1969 dart and the first thing that will go is that 273, it's a number matching car so I'll keep the 273 but I'm not rebuilding it.

Ok thanks I appreciate the help what about a 358 crank ?

Nice I thought about the Same but I can't afford a 340 and my mechanic said not numbers matching unless the moter is in it

New Mechanic? All Bs aside, if you destroy and window the number is 273 block then you have issues I had a friend of mine had Joe from Joe's Racing Engines down here taking chunk out of a 440 and repair a windowed 426 Hemi... you ain't going to want to do that with that small block it's not going to be cost-effective. What the fellas are trying to tell you is if you're going to build something that brutal use a different core for a block shelf and save your original number matching book and then you can always return the car back to a numbers matching car.... Dig?

Hodden pistons might be able to work with 3.58 stroke, when I was looking into doing a 273 they seemed like they could work, some say you can bore to 3.75" and use chevy pistons might have something that might go with 4" stroke.

Man, just Double and Triple Check EVERYTHING if You are gonna go Custom Pistons, off the shelf, i would still Have A KNOWN Good Engine Man/ Machine Shop VERIFY ALL Numbers, ie: wrist pin height, comp height, wrist pin size, material of Pistons considered, fly cut/ valve reliefs needed, final bore size needed ( will yer block take it) MAN, just please Do Yourself a Favor Brother, I ain't trying to rain on your parade man just make sure you or someone that knows what they're doing takes everything into consideration before you start spending a dime.... life WILL be Better and Less Stressful! It always takes me a year or two to build a motor. Due to Research and Money. I have time to research... I don't have money to screw things up

There are no VIN numbers stamped on a 67 engine. It can be date code correct, and that's it. It's expensive enough already to build a 273 and adding a stroker crank to the equation will only make it worse. I just built a 273 for my 65 Barracuda. Custom forged flat top pistons from Race Tech, for stock stroke 3.31 crank cost $700. Rings cost $200. Race Tech already had a CNC program for the pistons, so they were cheaper because they did. Pistons for a 3.58 or 4.00 crank will be more, and a 3.58 or 4.00 Scat crank with 273/318/340 mains will be probably $1200 plus shipping. Then you get either a 302 or 335 CI motor depending on which crank you choose. I fully support building your motor however you choose and look forward to watching the build thread if you make one, but knowing what I know from recently going down the 273 Rabbit hole...I personally would never build a stroker motor out of one when I could spend less money doing the same thing to a 340 or 360.

Oh yes I have a pro building the moter. Bumme.. yes it sucks waisting money I built this motor 1 already it spun the main bearings and got the crank hot. It's 30 over already have the new pistons from Egee 10:5.1 comp I was running 360 heads on this moter shaved etc debating instill using them not sure I want to spend the money on fancy aluminum heads would be nice. So just trying to figure out the crank thinking a light weight scat or egle. I have a 318 but I don't want to get it out and I would have to go to dad's house 3 hours away get the truck cherry picker come back. To much work just to steal the crank out of it my mechanic said save it .
