Starting to do research on "whut to do" about my windshield. Today I removed the trim and discovered that "I guess" what I have is 68--later trim that's been screwed to 67 gasket which IS MISSING the lock strip (The black photos at bottom)

The "parts" car I have is a 67 but it SEEMS to have properly installed 68 trim, which seems to mean that it's a 68 / later gasket, clips, and trim. I haven't seen my neighbor yet, so don't have a trim tool. (These are the "red" photos" at bottom)

I was searching around this afternoon, and came across this video which seems helpful (Going to be removing trim for painting this fall/ winter)

The plan is to inspect both windshields and pick the best one

Then decide if I want to pull the one out of the parts car and IF the gasket is OK, re--use it, or order a 68/ later gasket and use that

Photos below are my driving (black)67, and the parts car (red) Upside down chrome is I guess? 68 chrome which had been screwed onto 67

So the Great Big morning question is where do I buy (quality / price) a 68 / later gasket?

Steele? Year One? Everybody complains about Year One but they show this for a price, competitive to what I've found so far

Thanks, do you know that this seller is a "good source?" I don't need to pay "extra" but I don't want low quality, either, LOL

The package appears to be "Precision" and that is the brand I use. You might contact the seller to verify the manufacturer. Send a message and ask who the manufacturer is. The seller I normally buy from doesn't have any up right now that I saw.

EDIT: My normal seller does have the gasket.

been down this road there is one maybe two manufacturers of the gaskets. Shop for price since that is really going to be the only difference. I use Vans auto on ebay since they seem to have the best prices and ship fast

Thanks guys. Just got in, my hands are sore. Got all the (actually 68/ later) windshield trim off the 67 parts car, so now I can see how all this and the clips fit together. Need to wash both windshields, inspect, and decide which windshield to use. Getting the one out of mine will be "easy"---I'll just cut the old gasket.

No 40+ yr old windshield is going to suit a freshly painted vehicle.

For me, the decision is easy..........."go 68/ later" My parts car turns out to have later trim, trim clips and gasket, so that will be the trim.

Someone was using a locking strip from a mid 80's Chevy pickup they found on Ebay. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than the re pop stuff for these cars, apparently fits the same? Maybe look into it.

i just went thru this whole ordeal with my car this summer. i got my gaskets for 68+ off ebay. just found the cheapest seller with free shipping. when you get the trim clips make sure they come with the correct screws. they will have a blob of wax like material on the ends. they seal the screw hole when you install them.

this is where i got mine from
