My search for a shorty D100 is over

Turbo 6 would be cool, but it’s just cool factor. They don’t actually run hard, (I know there’s a few that have made big numbers and some guys that have gone really fast with em, no need to post videos guys) but for a fun daily type of build, a 5.9 with overdrive and a sneeze of nitrous is about perfect.

As long as my slant 6 gets me there and home not going to talk bad about it

After 3/4 days of rainy, crappy weather the storm passed and today was beautiful. Spent the majority of the day working on the driver side floors. Finished welding patches, ground down all the welds, then treated the remaining rust, then primed and sanded till I was happy with em. Not show car stuff but good enough. Still in primer currently so tomorrow I’ll lay down some white then I can start installing the sound deadening and get the carpet in. I got my girl (affectionatly named by @junkyardhero ”Dr. Mrs. Turbo Mike) involved and she handled making an orange engine, blue. For her first paint job she did great taping and spraying and she’s happy with it so I am too. Pics from today.

Dr. The Mrs Turbo Mike did a fantastic job! engine looks great!

making headway on the project man, the weather was nice treat after the crappy stuff we've had.

Cool project, keep up the good work. I've always had a soft spot for '70s trucks myself.

Most recent one I owned (below) was a '76 SWB/BB/NP 435 4speed. (not an original BB truck though) Those are cop wheels with redline hub caps. I lowered it but nothing dramatic - just cheapo rear shackles. It mostly just leveled the rake. I never got around to doing anything in the front.

I drove it all the time and on some pretty long trips too. One day it wouldn't start and left me stranded pretty far from home. After that it ended up sitting in my yard for a couple years. Parts of it were starting to get rusty and leaving it outside uncovered wasn't helping. Didn't have any interest in fixing it up and I sold it as a roller. It was a cool truck though.

Now that sits just right. I like it.

With most slant sixes, it ain't about goin fast. It's about bein cool and different.

Poor truck? What’s meant by that?
It's just not my thing. I mean.....it's gonna be cool and I like it regardless. I just wouldn't do it that way. I wish I could find one in that shape.

Thank you. Again, I sold it in 2020 and it went somewhere deep into NY State. Never heard from the buyer again after he took it. Hopefully he did fix it up like he claimed he was going to.

About 20 years before the green one I had a '72 W100, also a short box. It was actually my daily driver for several years when I lived in NYC. California truck, zero rust. 8 3/4 rear, Dana 44 front. That one had a stock 360 with an NP 445 4 speed. The 445 was a much better driving transmission than the stupid dump truck NP 435 because it had a synchronized first gear. At one point I had a complete NOS 445 that was still strapped to a pallet but eventually sold it at Carlisle. Heaviest transmission ever, must've weighed 300 lbs. Yes, it was NOS....still had cosmoline all over it. Had to have been one of a handful in existence.

The dent in the fender was from a hit and run while it was parked. :BangHead:

Inside. Metal door panels, gas tank behind the seat. Those Mastercraft bucket seats were awesome.

I was super into '70s trucks for a while. Best of the big three '70s "lifestyle" trucks for sure.

I did quite a bit of work today and didn’t stop to take pictures. Oh well you guys will get to see the finished product and not how it got there. I layed down some seam sealer, put down some cheap boom mat over the painted floors and then went to a friends kids soccer game while I had the carpet laying out in the sun. Came home a few hours later and everything was dry so I threw the carpet in and got to cuttin and fittin. It took more than a couple hours to get the fit how I wanted, and I had to trim a bunch off the front of the carpet, but the end result I think was worth it. I’m happy with how it turned out. Now I can’t wait for my seat to be done.

That looks nice! Maybe some small blue pinstripes down the sides?

Aw come on, that has Sleeper written all over it!

All kidding aside, really enjoy watching the progress :)
Kidding or not, you’re kinda reading my mind. Don’t think I haven’t considered slipping the TTW2 motor in there just for ***** and grins cause I have. I wonder how long the 8-1/4 diff would hold up to 10psi clutch dumps?
