can anyone tell me anything about this carb, it was on when i got the car and it has no markings/numbers anywhere i can find. it was running rich when i got it, but had no exhaust and no air cleaner, now has both and need to adjust the air/fuel ratio. is it these 2 screws on the bottom? any help would be appreciated.

Carter BBD two barrel. BBD= "Ball and Ball dual". Yes, the two spring loaded screws adjust the idle fuel mixture. Use a vacuum gauge and adjust them to get the highest vacuum reading at idle.

thanks for the quick reply, where exactly do i hook up vacuum gauge.

In your 2nd picture down, disconnect the hose at the carburetor that comes off the choke pull off and attach the hose for the vacuum gauge there.

i assumed that was the spot.....
will do, thanks.

i get a gauge today and give it a try.

That carb looks fairly clean. Is it by chance the Chinese knock off BBD? If so, you might have to take the top off and free up the metering rod slide. The inside of those seems to corrode like a bee-atch. I've had to deal with a couple of those. Uncle Tony has a video on those as well.

yes it is very clean, when i got the car that was one of the things the PO changed out. i have a, what looks to be original, in the trunk. it will need a complete rebuild.

so to answer the question i have no idea if is Chinese or not, but the probability is up there. i will see what the gauge tells me and go from there. thanks for the info

Carter BBD or a knock off...alot of guys love those knock offs...if I recall you can rebuild a BBD if the throttle shaft bores arent worn badly...

But getting back to your thread title. You said "Name this carb" so let's call it.......Sam. Hi Sam. Nice to meet you.

thanks all for the replies, even the actual name someone gave, LMAO

i have tried to get the vacuum to read anything but the same number and it looks like i need a rebuild or at least good cleaning. that being said, i have the original Carter that i would like to get back on there, does anyone know of a good reputable place that would rebuild/really clean a carb? i have some knowledge but would rather let someone with proper tools and cleaning solutions (ultrasonic cleaner) to do this, and maybe a guarantee???

thanks again all,
J5

Be very careful who you trust to rebuild your original carb..

lots of times they will media blast and tumble all the parts which removes the original coating.. so the newly rebuilt carb has become as corrosion prone as the one that is now installed.

If you are determined to have someone else do it, make sure they don't ruin it with their intent to get it all shiny and "NEW" looking, as it wont last unless they re-plate it!

Often old carbs can be carefully disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled and they are good to go...

Hey … how does a choke pull of work? When doesn’t it start and what’s the sequence of events ? I am assuming it does open it immediately.
All the carb research and messing around with them I never delved into there purpose.

The Last pic is where it would say "Carter" on the side of the bowl... Knock-Off
but they work well to about 4500 rpm's

It's there to do exactly as the name implies. When you depress the pedal when cold, the choke flips closed. In Theory, you're supposed to now start the engine without hitting the pedal and it will start and idle. Being a carburetor, it usually doesn't work that easily although some do. Once it's running, you blip the throttle and the choke pull off will pull the choke in the open position, so that you can drive it. It's another part of our "hurry up" world so you don't have to sit there and wait for warmup. lol
