Wanted to start a thread on my 1968 dart GT we will call Nevada Blue. Future plans 340 , 4 speed. Needs lot of TLC but is all there found remnants of build sheet to me thats a good sign. Been collecting many parts dash pad, steering wheel, 4 speed pedals and console shifter, disk brakes will up grade all to big bolt pattern. I dont know everything but use this forum quite extensively to figure it out. I read many threads here from other members so just wanted to start my own. First off is to get everything running before the 4 speed and 340 go in. So first i have been disassembling motor and some interior to everything cleaned up.

Very cool car. Congrats. Looks to be in pretty good shape. Not sure what your plans for the body are, but, as a 68 GT owner myself, i would suggest leaving the side trim on the car. If you look around, most 68's are stripped of their chrome. Both look good but the original is getting hard to see anymore.

Good luck with the build. Mine will probably stay auto, but get a 340 this winter too.

Good luck with the car.

the trim correct most people remove them for now it will stay. The 340 I got off another member pretty cheap with 727. The seats are in great shape and the body I’ll leave as is but make drive train will all be redone. Want it to have that ratty look for now and not worry about door dings and drive the hell out of it. But handle well.

Was going to power wash the trans but power pump went out basically the power washer is new used it twice. So that turned into another project had to buy new pump, took it all apart found nothing wrong even took it to a small engine repair shop he would even touch it said that husqvarna is Costco Chinese crap. So cleaned most by hand . Got the k member apart it’s in the hot tank for now. Bottom of it is sure smashed in not sure how I want to fix it.

68 is the best year… just 4spd swapped my 68 GT. I plan to make a thread on it once I’m done working on the inside but here’s a preview

Nice, did you buy a kit or pieced it together yourself ? I see you also kept the trim on exterior.

I contacted brewers on a full kit but they weren’t takin orders for transmissions and won’t be for a while.. I did find the trans, bellhousing, some of the linkage, shifter, and clutch from a resto shop that was converting from manual to auto.. they had that for sale and I pounced. I did have to get some parts from brewers to finish it out like pedals and various odds and ends. The trans was already rebuilt.. I took it for its first drive today and it was mostly successful. Need to dial in the 1-2 shift rod and adjust the pedal/linkage to engage the clutch sooner. Otherwise it was a success.. I’m glad it’s “done”. Def a learning experience and I have no desire to swap one again.. personally at least lol

I still need to finish the final resting place for the hump, pull the column arm, lay down new carpet, maybe put down some dynamat or something similar. I’d like to take off the PRNDL and column stub but that’s a project all its own

If you have a place and time to do it it’s not that’s bad, but it’s all the other variables. Get a floor column shifter swap the entire unit. Wow, always a good time when the can move on there own power.

A floor shift column would be ideal but.. I don’t often see them come up for grabs and when they do they’re pricey. I don’t know if that’s the going rate or they just overshot their value..even more ideal would be to find one for a manual steering box since I plan to go to manual steering but the adapter will work fine for a power column.

once you cut the floor/tunnel cut out for the hump consider bolting the hump in place rather than welding. i did that using small nutserts (rivnuts) on my 68 valiant, much easier to set up the shifter rods with the hump removed.
neil.

Not to much done as I only get into shop 1 day a week. This past weekend I was able to hot tank the uppers control arm soak them in T-9 install moog offset bushings and ball joints. Passenger side valve cover needed to replace 2 wire clamps. So I ordered those from mega parts sanded the old ones off then spot welded the new ones on. Then moved on and dipped the old ones in plasti dip. Difference is the mega ones were gloss and the plastic ones came out flat but whatever.

Well I was in the middle of priming the engine Saturday when I smashed my finger rotating the engine 11 stitches later it was primed . My finger was cut open like a steak. I’ll get interior picks this weekend. Got a pretty nice NOS steering wheel nice dash pad. Also door cards and arm pads, this weekend didn’t really go as planned though.
