Non-Mopar project I've been working on.

He does look pretty happy. Wonder if he got out of the car yet?
I called to make sure they made it home ok. All went well, but the heat was getting to him. He totes an O2 bottle. His sun called me telling me how he just grinning ear to ear and going on about the car. He'll probably be back out in it later on after it cools off. His son is over there erecting one of those carports for him to put it under.

A job well done, George! That paint job looks awesome!

From a design point of view, it would attract a lot of attention on a show over here, I think. I sure wouldn't mind having it thrown after me, rear window louvres and all. :)

When I was around 16 my dad had a fiberglass shop he took a friends dune buggy body called a Myers mink (if I spelled that right) and did a little different touches to it an started making dune buggies. My job was to take the body off a VW bug and me and my brother would drive the floor pan and engine around the block sitting on a 5 gallon bucket. I tell you it was a great moment for me. I love fiberglass and would like to get in to carbon fiber. but to many kids and not enough time and to damn old I will leave it up to you younger ones let me know if you get into carbon fiber.

I've messed with a bunch of fiberglass repair work, marine, big trucks, etc. Never messed with carbon fiber other than doing some wraps on hoods and bikes. Lots of those kids are happy if it "looks" like cabon fiber. lol Haven't done many vettes either and that one whooped me. lol

Yea done lots of everything in fiberglass and I know what you mean about working on vettes they all have been smashed, painted, and refurbished and you can only use your imagination on fixing them. but not sure what you mean on wraps

That is still hard to do. I use to custom paint back in the 70's on vans and trucks and did ok but decals are not one that I can do very well. I remember the first time I did the 1980is FireBird super chicken decal on the hood It took two decals the first time to get it right I really thought my boss was gonna fire me. And to this day I can't do a decal of any size than a chevy Z71 on a standard boxside.

Did you use soapy water on the chicken and Z71 decals?

Your supposed to peel the sticky side, and spray it down w soapy water then squeegie the **** out of it from the center out once its in position where you want it.

Once the decal dries in position you peel the top paper off the decal.

I have done lil red express decals and monte carlo SS decals. All the lettering is seperate pieces. The top paper holds it all in position. Once the soapy water dries you peel it off.

Easy peasy.

yea I know that but the guy I work with can do it with with a bondo spreader, and no soap he does big emblems. sorry but we do all the county cop cars and you know all the **** they put on them he is good and It pisses me off. If you ever get put in the back seat of a Towner co. cop car in N.D. I'm the one that puts all the **** to keep you from getting out of the back seat, the handcuff key is under the seat and the cresent wrench next to the key... good luck

Ok good to know, will you come visit me in jail with a cake thats got a file in it too? Lol

old VW bug frames far as i know...
Wow now thats a real death trap. Unbolt and remove the steel bug body which is weak as **** to begin with from the beetle floorpan / frame making it even weaker, and bolt that to a fiberglass dune buggy tub.

A buddy of mine has a sand rail buggy. Only thing it uses thats VEE Dub is the front suspension, and rear transaxle. Everything else is welded tube steel. Its got an adaptor on it with a corvair flat 6 in it. I'd take my chances in a sand rail before i hop into a fiberglass tub body dune buggy.

Yea so true but was young and dumb back then now I'm safer but still have the dumb part.

Meyers Manx
Yea that's the one, real popular back in the 70's they were safer than driving just the floor pan around I can't remember how many times I feel off the 5 gallon bucket. Life was good back then. I still remember my neighbor putting in a hemi think it was a 426 in a older bug he would drive that around and it would just spin the tires and he was afraid to give it to much gas. I lived in a crazy neighbor hood growing up.

I'm putting the heads back on my 340 and was wondering if I need to run the engine up to temp. and retorque the heads again

Id say that depends on the headgaskets used, and or weather or not head bolts or head studs.
head bolts and Mr gasket ultra seal on one side and fel pro on the other side. ya I know that's odd. had to get different gasket thickness to compensate for my deck height being different from one side to the other
