well, the news is out. oakland just got rated as the 4th most dangerous city in the US. :blackeye::dontknow: greeeaaatt........ richmond came in 8th or 9th, which is just north about 15 minutes.

Steve, after my visit to your shop last week (which I really enjoyed) and that altercation with some of the locals, I couldn't imagine why. Next time I come rolling into Oakland, I'm bringing my Bradley (tank). ;-)

I am in St Louis and we just dropped from 1st place back to 2nd being barely beat out from by one point from holding the number 1 spot by Detroit.

Isn't it an improvement over the previous rating?

Yeah I'm in El Sobrante right on the fringe of Richmond .Technically it is Richmond.Lived here just about one year . No problems at all so far .
But I hear all kindsa stuff going on just the other side of Highway 80.
Had a couple of shootings by the hilltop mall.
I think(Hope) were too far up in the hills , keeps the riff raff to a minimum.
Moved here from Concord,Ca. because I was tired of My truck being broken into twice a Month...:-k

I'll be out that way in the Jan-Feb time frame. Heading to belmont for some Nikon training. A far cry from Oakland though.

That may get you a couple of get-togethers then. I'll check to see what is happening event-wise as well. Keep in touch as the time gets closer.

I used to live in Vacaville and had to drive to Oakland almost everyday. Went to a couple good parties there also. But, its not for the faint of heart. The last party I went to had a "dealer" set up providing some white relaxation, another fella showed up, and I know this is gonna sound like bull, but this guy shows up in a white caddy, has a pink suit on and he's gonna take over the "trade"...he ended up stabbing the first dealer...at that point I left and turned down future invites to your fair city. The last time I was in CA was 91 and seeing how much it's grown and changed since I left in 82, I can't imagine what the last 16 years has done. I miss the fishing though and all the good people I left behind.

The Motor City, We're number 1! We're number 1! You're all jealous. If only we could teach the Lions to be as bad as the citizens, we might make the playoffs one year before I die.

I used to work there in Oak town. Worked on the new Cypress structure after the other one fell. Used to get stuff stolen from that site like mad. And of course used to get great offers for stuff that was stolen from down the road. Where else could you buy a stolen carb with gas still in it and the choke still open because it's still hot. Literally!!!

steve, i'm from concord (about 20 miles east of you) and i feel it's no better here. i had my back window broken for no reason at all. tony.

Concord is where they break into your car with their pinky up like it's tea time. All whilst driving a BMW.

64dartwagon, I noticed that you are in No. Highlands. Are you familiar with a machine named:

Hi Performance Machine Inc.
3100 Elkhorn Blvd
No. Highlands Ca. 95660
916-332-3910

If you are, I'd like to hear your opinion on them.

From what little I've heard it's been on both sides of the fence. But one of the complaints was from a whiny-snivler! I haven't had any engine machining since moving up here from the bay-area. But I used to get great work done at the now defunct Montgomery Auto Parts. The machinist's name was Gordon, kinda a tweek. But in a good machinist way, no detail was missed, and when you had parts cleaned they were cleaned!

I work in Richmond off of Cutting Blvd, and with all the gang related shootings they have had in the last few months out there, I think they're going for a new record.
They even shot the windows out of a police car in the brand new police station.
As for Concord, I was born and raised here, even though I have lived in Pittsburg, and Martinez Ca. too. It has it's good areas and it's bad areas, if you live near Monument Blvd, AKA "little Mexico" (which I did when I was just out of high school) they'll steal your freakin guard dog if you don't lock him up LOL
When I bought my house, I made sure it wasn't too close to apartments, section 8 housing, and wasn't on a road with alot of through traffic. I also looked at what streets/areas all the crimes seemed to be at, you can't always stop a crook, but you can better your odds.

Im from San jose originally but the family moved to Alaska when I was 7.We had family all over California, but boy im glad im outta California.I dont no how you guys take living with all that crime down there. But,Alaska is getting its share of gangs and increased crime too, mainly in the big city that i live in,Anchorage....I think the crime is a little less here because,,well,,,were probably the most armed state in the USA.If your a bad guy,you never know if the guy your messing with is carrying or not.More then likely he or she is.We have concealed carry here and you dont need a permit to carry..But we do have our pockets of bad areas...dont we all.

I work in Richmond off of Cutting Blvd

ProStreet, I never ever thought I would get a chance to bring this up but after you mentioned the exit you work off of, I remember driving down the freeway (right before the Cutting Blvd. exit) and almost wet myself after seeing the big sign from the gas station there: CUTTING GAS. Sorry, just had to relive it. ;-)

LMAO!! I've never seen it. But i'm usually half asleep, I'll have to look for that sign. Would make a hella funny pic.

leave and go to rodeo? oakland doesn't need my style? who are you to say? you live in hercules. you'r probably afraid of oakland. 99.9% what? oakland does have some good parts. it has some good places to go as well. obviously you know me enough to call me a redneck.

..... i suggest that you move, oakland does not need your style:rr:

Hmmm.... after personally spending time in San Francisco with Steve recently I'll add this: He owns his own business, is VERY cordial and accommodating (thanks again for the parts for my car...), his girlfriend is a sweetheart, and he will give you the shirt off of his back. Literally.

HE should move? The day I left San Francisco there was a fire in Oakland where they found 5,000 pot plants in an adjoining warehouse. Maybe he should move out so they would have room for 10,000 plants...

I haven't done this to anyone here yet, but you really rubbed me the wrong way with your blind prejudice and smart-*** mouth. Welcome to my ignore list. [-X

BTW: If this is a race issue (which you hinted at...) I suggest everyone think twice before opening one of your posts. I have NO PATIENCE for racists, biggots, or idiots. And for the record, my God daughter is Hispanic.

Rodeo? I thought that is a middle class suburb? Seen the signs for it on 80. Lived in Oakland for 20 years and never been there though.

Why not Walnut Creek? :lol
