Looking things over a while ago, the header collectors and a crossmember want to occupy the same space. I am going out now and hope to have the motor and trans out of the way this evening.
Had that issue on a '70. We cut out "archways" for the header clearance. Worked great.Looking things over a while ago, the header collectors and a crossmember want to occupy the same space. I am going out now and hope to have the motor and trans out of the way this evening.
Is that a 6AL I see on that firewall?
Yeah, an old one from the late 80s. I can't remember how many cars its been in, all a bodies, until I put it in here.
LOL.... as soon as i read this I instantly thought of Curly wrecking saw blades on his headWell, I may not be smarter than what I'm working on, and I may not even be tougher anymore......
But I am more stubborn!
14 frame rivets gone... I will have header clearance now. I still have to box the frame there.
Actually, most of my formal education came from watching the stooges.
And, from watching Wyle E. Coyote try to catch the Road Runner......
Back in the seventies me and my buddies would get home from work Saturday morning and watch The Bugs Bunny Roadrunner hour together. The neat thing was the hour was an hour and a half. LOL then we would go out in the garage and work on the cars.
Then go to the drag strip.
that's cool how your son still owns it. My wife finds cars that get 13 mpg and then wants to take them across the country ..... . . .That old 4 door Valiant had a 10.5 compression 360 , MI dual plane, and I put several different cams over a few years. Mild to wild. The best all around was the old MP 274. It had 3.91s with sure grip, a reverse pattern 904 and a 9 1/2" converter. It was also our only transportation for several years. It replaced our 71 Demon when we were expecting our 3rd son. We did not think it would work out real well with 3 car seats in a 2 door.
My wife is actually the one who located the Valiant. She saw it in town after grocery shopping and followed it until it pulled into a driveway. She came home, I packed in the groceries, and we took off to see if it was for sale. Of course it wasn't, but I left my phone # with them.
A couple of weeks later I got a call, they wanted to sell it.
My oldest son now owns it, It is his only car. He has a lot better motor than I did....still 3.91s

Does it still have the 318 in it now?I guess I put it in the other thread. I balanced the crank the other night, so that is done.
Today I took a little time and removed another 14+ pounds.
I think I have reached the point that any more weight loss will be a lot of effort for little gain, at least chassis/ body wise. I will keep at it as time and weather allow..
The biggest losses now will be the aluminum heads, little starter and such. Headers will be lighter than manifolds, but my 3" pipes may gain most of that back.
Does it still have the 318 in it now?
slow and easy is how we go....I honed the 340 block earlier this week. I have also been SLOWLY working on building some traction bars. a little progress at least....

Slapped bars or Cal-Trac style?
