This is on hold for awhile I am concentrating on the tranny transplant right now and will come back to this project at a later date....hope you stay tuned and very ready to see how this all works out...believe me..8)

Got back on the HHR fan module today...made the upper and lower brackets..
Spent some more time on the radiator install today....got the top and bottom brackets bent and pretty much installed tonight....I will be ready to blow it apart again and get ready for paint....hope to have it running again next week...take a look..I always apologize for any fuzzy or hard to view pics...

Got the fan brackets.....condensor coil brackets and lower latch support angle brackets painted tonight....steath black again....good thing about hot *** Houston is you have about 10 good months to paint any thing you want....

I got about ten fender washers painted with VHT's satin epoxy paint...I use these on both sides of the radiator bolts to hide the large hole from previous radiator installs and to help support it...I also got the brackets mounted to the HRR fan....found out that my lower radiator hose for a 1970 Charger will work...I am going to install a spring in it to make sure it doesn't collaspe...here's a few picks...

I got my alternator belt today and it worked great....I have a new problem with the powersteering pump to crank pulley belt clearance from crankshaft pulley to the powersteering pump..I have an idler roller bearing from my old small block that will offset the belt or I can try a shorter belt....

very close to the electric water pump....

Went to my storage to retrieve my idler roller from my numbers matching 318....what fffffffing luck I had today...I was able to mount it to the power steering pump and it lined up perfectly...what the fffffffffff....anyhow the radiator is out for paint tomorrow.....tanks and top and bottom...here goes some more pics....

very very nice!!!
It's really really close to....now you see why I had to cut and put it on the other side of the radiator support......the A/C setup made me do it...8)

These are two more pictures from the front with the stealth black paint....the runs you can see were already there...

Got the wiring done tonight for the HHR fan module the electric water pump and the fan for the tranny cooler...also had to bolt up the driver's side exhaust to the header...tomorrow it goes down on the ground again...fill her up with tranny fluid and water and install my fan override switch...Wendesday fire her up again...

IMG00404-20100628-2306.jpg

If you have known me as long as I have been posting this I do not start up the motor until it has been sat over night with all fuilds in it...this way I can check for any little leak before starting it up...I put in eight quarts of ATF 4+ tranny fluid and 2 and half gallons of distilled water and half gallon of anti-freeze...I turned the key on and the tranny cooler fan came on and also the electric water pump...I have two 1/8" holes drilled into the thermostat and it was able to see water flow and lots of air bubbles at the radiator opening..I ran it and added more water until all of the air bubbles stopped...more to come tomorrow...thanks to all that have stayed tuned..

Very...Very....Very...Very Happy tonight

Today I was very....very....very...very...HAPPY....got it started up with not a single leak.....ran it with no fan blowing until it reached operating temp...let it run up to 180 degrees...I stopped it and installed the HHR fan relay...I started it back up and it did not start...I found one of the wires on the thermostat disconnected and put it back on...right away the temp came back down...the tranny cooler never got over 110 degrees...I had to add another quart and a half of tranny fluid to get it right...put it in reverse and forward and it worked fine...at first I let it run without the HHR fan and when it came on I used my temp gun and found it supplying 170 degree water after 15 minutes of running it in my garage with no external fan...it also sucked a piece of paper and a rag in at the condensor coil and held it in place...I have to agree that the HHR fan pulls a lot of CFMS...by Friday I will let you know how many amps it pulls....

One rag sucked onto the condensor coil...the coil is 1 1/2" away from the radaitor

IMG00411-20100630-2103.jpg

One piece of paper thrown at the condensor coil and it stuck...

IMG00412-20100630-2105.jpg

Temp held for 15 minutes after running in hot garage no other fan......

IMG00413-20100630-2107.jpg

Thank you for all of you that hung in there...it's not over yet....

Looking great! I love projects like this.

I just tried the HHR deal on my 71 Dart (small block 360) and the fan hit the water pump also. My radiator must have been narrower than yours because it fit my radiator perfect (the four "arms" on the edges actually hung out over the tanks).

I didn't want to cut on the car so I got a Derale 16217 2 speed 17" fan for about $160.00 (about twice the price of the HHR deal). Fits with plenty of room and cools awesome (at least according to the autometer gauge). Supposedly pulls 2400 cfm and draws less than 30 amps on startup. Either way it works on my car, and my car has always run hot.

Just thought I'd post that in case anyone was interested in a different option.

Yours looks great!

Steve

First shot of fifteen minutes of idle at the top radiator hose...

Blurry but 163 degrees..

IMG00415-20100702-2154.jpg

Not so blurry...137 degrees at bottom

IMG00416-20100702-2154.jpg

I will take a 26 degree drop...what do you think?

Thanks, after further consideration remember I told everyone that because the A/C compressor I have I had to cut and put the radiator on the other side....if you are willing to run the electric water pump and no A/C you will be good to go....no cutting..

I drove all the way to work today....8 miles to locate our amp clamp meter....unfortunatly it would only do AC amps....we have a recorder that should do it but I was not able to locate it...I still want to amp everything out for myself and you guys... 8)

Got the air dam/spoiler done today and ready for paint...just waiting for no rain
Went on my lunch hour to American Heliarc and got my 35 degree bend done for ten bucks..It was raining and their brake was outside so I helped Chris the same one that tig welded my valve cover bend it....came home and got it bolted up and ready for paint...

Just to let everyone know I am still here...just have some tranny issues to overcome before I can really drive the car in traffic and hammer on it....timing curve work...10 degrees initial and 35 total....exhaust smells normal...have to run it to read the spark plugs...also did the chin spoiler and it is just a ten dollar bolt on...still want to run my A/C it is freaking hot here...back in black for now....

IMG00426-20100709-2055.jpg

I ordered this Fluke I410 so that I can measure the amp draw of the HHR fan and the water pump....

31rI1C0gEXL__SL500_AA300_.jpg

It will plug into my Fluke digital mulitmeter and is good for 400 amps...I found one on Shopzilla for $151.00
