Do i just push pull and pry this thing on, or do I have some parts that are not right? The pedal brkt is the stock one from my 69 Valiant auto. No idea what the pedals or the spring came off of....

Thanks, Dennis...

Looks right to me; you just need to get it hooked onto that post.

Put a large flat screwdriver through the spring end and the tip of the screwdriver over the top of the stud and lever it on there.
I've done it that way probably 50 times.

Put one end of the spring in a vice, bend it over and add flat washers between the open coils then repeat other side until you have enough length to slip over. Clamp bracket in vice or bolt in car, depress pedal and the washers fall out.

Brilliant

The only brilliant thing I've done lately is to help my 22yr old son buy his 71 Demon. But thanks.

Dennis,

What type of pressure plate are you using? If it is a diaphragm type, leave the spring off.

I am using a Centerforce part number DF 269675. With an American Powertrain hydraulic conversation kit. No Z bar and no clutch fork....

Frederick,

I am assuming that your Centerforce Clutch is a diaphragm type. If this is the case, Centerforce has always recommended that the over center spring be removed. Being that you are using a hydraulic throw out bearing, I would call Centerforce's tech line to be sure.

Can anyone tell me what I have here?
my documents

It looks like a little picture of a mountain with a white line through it with a cloud above it on a piece of paper with one corner partially folded over.

Yer pitcher didn't show up.

Turns out I don't need the spring. Lots of good ideas on how to put one in. Thanks anyways.....:eek:ops:

It is out of a 70 340 Duster I bought last year. The clutch released high and stuck a lot. It had some bogus return spring under the dash that was an add on and didnt work. After reading this blog we pulled it last night. The clutch "latch"(?) is really bent up. We thought it looked like an assembly out of a 318 or 6cyl as shown elsewhere in this blog but it has the heavier 340 spring! What do you think? Doi you think it can be straightened, cleaned up and salavaged? Also, do you know where I cab get the bushing that goes on the pedal end of the Z-bar? Thanks.

Thanks. No comment on salvaing the pedal assembly?

You should be able to replace the clutch pedal provided the frame itself is not bent. My suggestion would be to replace that entire pedal assemble with a heavy duty (340/383 type). I see them for sale here on FABO all the time. Check with Barracuda Kid (aka Eddie Combs,) I'll bet he has a good set .
