Post your 12 second small block combos

-
'69 340 Stock crank and block.
10:1
.530 lift, .230 degrees at .050
Edelbrock heads
Comp Cams rockers and shafts
RPM intake
Holley 750 HP Street

Car is a '72 Duster - glass hood, rest is steel. Frame connectors, SS springs, Four speed. 93 octane. Drove it 40 miles to the track, raced it with no changes, and drove home.

With 3.55 gears, my best was 12.77. Switched to 3.91 and best was 12.487
Next year, I'm going with a deeper gear for the strip hoping for low 12's.

I realize you are not asking for stroker combos but have you considered a stroker? Are you driving the car on the street or driving to the track?

I have a Scat stroker crank and KB forged pistons (340/416). Its about 9.5:1 compression with stock X heads, Comp Cam xe274, Airgap, Edelbrock 750, mopar dist w/chrome box and Hooker Headers. It runs great on the street from idle to 6000 rpm with pump gas, has loads of torque and I can drive it almost an hour to Etown. It will go 12.8 with 3.55 gears and a 4 speed without really beating on too bad it to do so.

It seems to be a pretty good balance for a street car that gets some track time. The money spent on Edelbrock heads could be spent on a stroker kit. Just a little something to help complicate matters for you.

'70 .030 340 ross true 10.5, X heads w/ Muscle Motors stage 2 porting, RPM Airgap, 750DP, Ultradyne solid .587/[email protected], MSD dist. and coil. 727 w cheetah valve body, Coan 8" 4000 stall, and 4.56 gears. It was in a all steel full interior '71 Demon 340. Ran a 26" tall X9 wide Hoosier slick. Ran a best of 7.43 @ 89 mph in the 1/8th. I drove it there, put the slicks on, raced, put the street tires back on and drove home. 55 miles each way. ( I was young and didn't have a trailer.) That should be 11.30s in 1/4.

I'm pretty happy with my low buck 12 second combo.

Stock forged crank 340, purchased as a running engine for $600. Tore it down to inspect and basically just put in new bearings and rings. Stock rods, ARP bolts, TRW replacement pistons, 10.1 compression, Comp XE274 hydraulic cam, stock factory X heads, Edelbrock Airgap intake topped with a well tuned Holley 650 carb and 1" carb spacer, and headers.

Best of 12.91 @ 103.4 mph with $1,800 total in engine build. Car weighs 3,500 pounds race weight, weighed on a certified scale.

MP short block with 10.1. 509 cam 292. edelbrock heads cleaned up and gasket matched. 1.6 roller rockers. MP single plane intake with Holly 750 dp, 72/78 jets. TTI headers. 3500 stall and 4:30 gear with 28 inch tire. car is 3150# with me in it. Best run is 11.98 @ 113. Runs 12'0s all day long. Bring it home put a 650 holly dp and 3 inch pipes with Holly Turbo mufflers, runs excellent on the street.

well i havent ran my setup at the track (nor even drove it for that matter) but i thought i might post it...some have told me high 12's are in it, others told me low 13's at very best, so im gonna be optimistic and say it might run high 12's

forged crank 340 .30 10.5:1 cr
stock untouched x heads
comp 280H cam 480 lift, 230 dur. at .50 (single pattern cam)
rpm air gap intake, modified 750hp holley carb
windage tray, deep sump pan, HV oil pump
1-5/8 headers, 3 inch exhaust with borla racing muffs
3.91 gear, 5 speed, 29x12.5 MT sportsman tire (i think this is my limiting factor), stock leafs with one added and clamped, comp 3 way adjustables rear, stock front /6 stuff up front
id say 3500lbs with my skinny as in it (all steel car)

If this car runs a 12.99 i will be the happiest **** alive since the motor is milder than childrens chicken wings

i also think location, track temp, and all those variables play a big deal as well

12.83 @ 108.25 with a 1.85 60 foot. I have a heavy 3700 pound drop top, A/C, PS, PB with a 360/300HP Magnum crate motor. It has a 3.55 SG and a TKO trans. I spray a 100 HP shot of nitrous, that way I can keep the mild torquey cam in it for the street (17 MPG). I shift at 5500 RPM. I put a pair of 275x50x15 MT ET Streets on for the track. This car has 25,000 miles on it since I built it and hundreds of passes on it.

Wow, I really should log in and read this stuff more.

I acturally ran my car for the first time at the track and was REALLY dissappoited. If ya see the car you would think its a 10 sec , but I thinking it more of a slug. The car is a 71 swinger, weighing 3000 lbs. 345, with 10/5 flat top and x heads 65cc. the heads are ported, (never Flowed) , with 2.08 in/1.60 ex. and roller rockers. The cam is a crowler solid, 555 lift/265 dur on 108 center. I am running holley strip dominator with a 750 Quickfuel carb The 727, has 3500 stall with 3.91 on 31/16.5 /15 sportsman (the hockey puck ones). They acturally are 29.5 tall. The car is ladderbar and coil over.

The best time i did was a 13.301 @105.42 with 2.132 @ 60ft.

75 Dart Swinger
3450 lbs. with me and a 1/2 tank of pump gas.

MP 2400 stall convertor
Holly 600 DP
Weiand x-cellerator single plane
Wingage tray
MP distributor
1 5/8" dynomax headers with dual exhaust and X-pipe
All stock electronics and bottem end.
8 1/4 rear with 4.10's
SS springs with truck shocks
28" MT Street radials
Left the line at 1,500rpm and shifted at 5,800.

Crappy 1.71 60' was the best I ever got, but it ran 12.9 at 103-104 mph almost a hundred times. 8)

Hey how about putting a 350 olds engine in say a demon? Just kidding guys . I like olds engines because they are almost as durable as a mopar engine. Also how about a 12 sec. 318 build up? I think the most durable mopar of all.
