Post your 12 second small block combos

-
Hey how about putting a 350 olds engine in say a demon? Just kidding guys . I like olds engines because they are almost as durable as a mopar engine. Also how about a 12 sec. 318 build up? I think the most durable mopar of all.

Welcome to the site! Your first post is about putting a Olds engine in a Mopar and building up a fast 318?!? I smell a troll.

I finally feel confident putting this in here, since the car clicked off its best runs ever.

'73 Scamp at a very portly 3640 lbs with driver (yep, it was weighed at the track with about a half tank of gas)
Street car with full interior
No subframe connectors or any kind of chassis stiffening
90/10 Lakewood shocks up front, CE adjustables rear
SS springs

'75 318 block .030 over
forged crank
KB399 dome pistons
Eagle SIR rods
Milodon pan, pickup, and HV oil pump

587 heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, ported by Aerohead
Comp 282 solid cam, .495 lift/236 dur @ .050
Hughes 1.6 rockers, bringing lift to .528

Holley 650DP sitting on a port matched Weiand Action+
1 5/8 Hedman street headers
2.5" exhaust to the bumper with cutouts

TF727 with 9.5" PTC converter, brake stalls to 3600
8.75 rear with 3.91 gears and 25" M&H DOT slicks on steel wheels

Last runs of the year, it ran a 13.27 @ 101.2. I know it's not an official 12-second run, but with a lighter car or maybe a 904, it'd be right there. There were all sorts of other things that could've been done to this car, but I simply ran out of time.

I wanted to get this posted into here because the car is now retired. The engine and trans are being yanked for a Dakota and the body's either being sold whole or parted out.

I'm moving to a 360-powered Duster for next year and looking forward to posting that combo at least in this thread, if not the 11-second combo thread. :)

Feel free to remove this post if you don't think it belongs.

I can finally put my 1969 dart in here 70 340 915j heads hughes hyd. cam hedman headers 2 1/2 exhaust eddy intake 650 mighty demon 4.88 sure grip. 727manual valve body 3200 stall xhd springs in full street trim ran a 8.21 which converts to about 12.79 in 1/4 mile.I was very happy,Kevin.

HI, Brian T lke i said i was just kidding about putting a olds engine in a mopar. Has a oldsmobile engine ever won top fuel or pro stock? I don,t think so . I was just talking smack. I used to win a lot of bet, swith the Chevy guys, that thought that Mopar could not beat them in the quarter/mile. Sox & Martin - Dandy Dick Landy,Don Carlton -The Blue Max ,Don Garlits i did quite well betting with them . And with my 425 olds i beat a few bigmouth buick drivers . One of best street races that i witnessed were between 2 friends of mine Louis Garcia/70 Road Runner 440 -6pack -Danny Mullins 68 Chevelle 396/375 with laker pipes. Place chicago at larmie & lexington to laramie & roosevelt. They do their burn outs -stage , take off the chevelle is quicker out the hole, the road runner catches him , gets about a 2 car lead and wins. Those were the day,s . Mr. Norm,s Grand -Spaulding Dodge had the 340 demon, that were the best sounding small blocks ever . And you could get a supercharged version from Mr.Norm. If i ever hit the power ball . a 605 indy-cyl head hemi dart will sit in my drive way,and ahost of other mopar super cars. Mopar hat the best looking ,best colors strongest drive train of all the muscle cars in my opinion. Watch some reruns of Nash Bridges.

318 .040 over

The numbers are real good. Each one is competing with others. Hope I too need to modify my machine.

Here the oddes of the bunch on sb mopar I have a .60 318 with kb 399 pistons 64cc 360 steel heads 2.02/1.60 with lots of work 590/312 solid MP bump stick with a airgap intake Demon 750 race carb 4500 stall tci comp 727 with a cheata 486 gears with a 26x8 MT slick car runs 12.28 at 101.5 mph in the 1/4 and is red lined at 7600 rpms 100 feet before the traps. But my lil bomb just keeps taken it. lol But thats a 318 for ya. In the 8th it runs 7.65 at 90.8 mph at 6300rpm Never have got the math right on that but it will do it all day so im leaven it alone. oh ya the lower end is a steel 273 crank with H beam rods and is balanced. Its in a 1971 scamp that is 2690lb with me in it

Damn thats light. My 70 Dart with a 360 Mag, 904, and 8 3/4 is almost 3100 lbs. You got any 'glass in that car?

I went 12.54 in my 65 Barracuda:

stock 318, cast pistons, 273 rods, cast crank, unballanced
360 heads(not sure of casting #) angle milled down to 45.5 cc, 2.02, 1.6 valves, some bowl work, chipped at 7000 rpm, hit it almost every 1-2 shift; then I chipped it to 7400 rpm, didn't hit it any more...........:)
Comp Cams XTQ281S-6 cam
Edelbrock TorquerII intake, 750 Holley DP
D-Dart headers
Coan 4000 stall converter, 4.88 gears on a spool, 904, M/T 275/60-15 Drag radials
Southside Machine traction bars, Comp Engineering 3 way adj shocks in the rear, MP 90/10's up front, the car weighed 3080lbs with me in it.

0.30 over 340 block, stock rods and crank. Stock unported J heads with stock 2.02 valves. Crane HMV 278 cam. Stock intale, 750 Thermoquad, Mopar electronic ign., TTI headers with 2.5 exhaust with stock tips. Cheap 10 inch 3000 stall converter, 4.10 posi, L60 15 tires. The valve springs were worn out, so could'nt rev past 5000. Ran 12.99@ 99 mph! I used to bracket race the hell out of it with a 12 inch converter and 3.23 gears. With 235/60r14's on stock ralley wheels, it would run 13.70's at Gainesville all night long. Won lot's of trophies with it back in the 80's and 90's. This is in a stock 71 340 Demon. Needs freshening and paint now. I've seen Racerbob's Duster run, very nice. Cars seem to run quicker at MIR than Gainsville. Must be the air or something.

1970 Plymouth Duster (Foot-Brake)- stock hood, no air-pan
12.05 @ 115mph 1/4
7.67 @ 93mph 1/8

420Hp - 478ftlbs. (engine dyno)

727 Torque Flight Manual Valve Body (reverse pattern)
TCI Street Fighter Converter
8 3/4 Rear Yukon Axels
3.23 Rear Gears (my big mph)
Mickey Thompson E.T. Streets 27x10.5

Previous Setups ran...

225 Slant-Six Super Six Intake 2bbl carb
17.76 @ ? 1/4

318 mostly stock, added small cam and roller rockers and 650 vacuum secondary carb with 3.23 gears
14.00 @ 98 MPH 1/4
8.94 @ ? 1/8

1970 Dart with .030 over 340 block and speed pro 10.5/1 pistons. Heads are smogger 360 heads with mild clean up and stainless 2.02 / 1.60 valves with 11/32 stems.
Cam is an old (1990 or so) comp cams 280 with Crane roller tip rockers and an LD 340 intake with 700 dbl pumper Holley.
727 automatic has a 10" stall (3300 rpm) and rear gears are 3.91 with a 26" Mickey Thompson ET Street.
It runs through crappy old thrush headers and through full 2-1/2" exhast with 2 chamber Flowmasters. The car is 3285 with me in it.

Performance is a best of 12.44 at 111 mph slightly above sea level at Mission Raceway Park in beautifull British Columbia. Car doesn't corner worth a darn.......Hotchkis upgrade is on the way and a conversion to g-machine is pending.

Cheers

Hi I am new to FABO. Have watched this thread a while and decided to join in.

Even though this is not a 3.38 stroke combo, here goes. My original goal for car was to get into 12.80s but the car will do that easily, new goal is 11s.

1971 Dodge Demon, all steel, factory glass, no carpet(yet), 6point rollbar, subframe connectors. Have removed 150# from front,(light brakes, man steering, light wheels. I plan on going NHRA Stock class next year. Car is new, still tuning. Run on pump premium gas only.

My weight, 150#
Car weight 3100#
Gears, Dana60 4.56
Tires, MT 29.5/9/15 slicks 28 in front
3000 stall converter
904 w/low gearset

Engine is Mopar 380/360 shortblock out of bag no prep.($1000) Heads stock untouched 340 from Aerohead.($500 pair)

9.0 to 1 comp
508\292 hyd cam
750 Proform carb
TTI stepped headers
Caltrac Chassis

Last outing it was 104 deg out at 7 PM with 60% humidity.

Results were 12.40 - 12.41 @ 108.6 MPH all night. 60' @ 1.66-1.68

I shift at 5800 and run thru traps at 6100. I am getting valve float above 6000 so that is to be addressed. I just changed to ATI 8" 4500 stall, hope to see 11s soon, once the weather cools down.

I have enjoyed seeing how many different ways people use to acheive the same results, cool!

Chuck.
