Post your 12 second small block combos

Nice combo.
Are the correct springs on the head for that cam. It seems a bit short on RPM.
I see you all ready went with more stall, which is good. You should see a nice drop in ET.
What is your track Alt. I just noticed your in Az. Around here, near the water, kind of, LOL in E-town N.J., alot of guys are knockin down good times with a similar combo. A slight faster. (Not raggin on ya)

Thanks for the compliments.
They are supposed to be setup for .508 cam. I have loosened the valve adjustment for 1/8 turn of preload, seemed to help. Stiffer springs should help it I think. There is still more tuning in carb and timing I am sure.

Chuck

/6 torsion bars, 90/10 Lakewood front shocks
002/003 SS springs, snubber, CE adj 3-way shocks
Mallory 140 fuel pump, Mallory bypass regulator, 1/2" line to and from the tank

Best run so far launching at 2000, shifting at 6000, going through the traps at 6200 to 6300
60' = 1.708
330' = 5.071
1/8 ET = 7.941
1/8 MPH = 85.33
1000' = 10.433
1/4 ET = 12.547
1/4 MPH = 106.37

Best 60' was 1.684, but I could feel it turning the tires over a little bit on each run. It also feels like it may be laying down a little on the top end of each gear and it's a bit of a handful past half track on these tires.

Oh, and I cut a .001 light with my average being around .060. Hopefully I'll be able to run points next year.

Nice!
I like yor use of 1.6 rockers with the Edelbrock cam. It helps wake the cam up with the quicker lift and into a lift where the heads really start to move some air. I think with a fiberglass replacement program .... you'll be relisting this in the 11 sec. zone.

That front bumper has that way heavy steel bumper behind the chrome facade. I had a '74 just recently. It was a /6 model. It didn't have much in it, some of the basics when order, P/S, P/B radio, & heat. The cars weight was some where around 3000lbs.or less, a surprise for sure.

Hi I am new to FABO. Have watched this thread a while and decided to join in.

Even though this is not a 3.38 stroke combo, here goes. My original goal for car was to get into 12.80s but the car will do that easily, new goal is 11s.

1971 Dodge Demon, all steel, factory glass, no carpet(yet), 6point rollbar, subframe connectors. Have removed 150# from front,(light brakes, man steering, light wheels. I plan on going NHRA Stock class next year. Car is new, still tuning. Run on pump premium gas only.

My weight, 150#
Car weight 3100#
Gears, Dana60 4.56
Tires, MT 29.5/9/15 slicks 28 in front
3000 stall converter
904 w/low gearset

Engine is Mopar 380/360 shortblock out of bag no prep.($1000) Heads stock untouched 340 from Aerohead.($500 pair)

9.0 to 1 comp
508\292 hyd cam
750 Proform carb
TTI stepped headers
Caltrac Chassis

Last outing it was 104 deg out at 7 PM with 60% humidity.

Results were 12.40 - 12.41 @ 108.6 MPH all night. 60' @ 1.66-1.68

I shift at 5800 and run thru traps at 6100. I am getting valve float above 6000 so that is to be addressed. I just changed to ATI 8" 4500 stall, hope to see 11s soon, once the weather cools down.

I have enjoyed seeing how many different ways people use to acheive the same results, cool!

Chuck.

My new converter from ATI went in. Took car to Speedworld last night.
The temp outside was 85.
60' improved to 1.59.
ET 11.81 (6 tenths lower)
MPH 113.0 (5 MPH increase) same engine speed, just less converter slip.
I thought that was great for just a converter change.
I made no other changes. Drove car the same way. I still expect to see improvement with valve springs.
Chuck.

LOL me too, now, you gotta move your entire post with upgrades over to the 11 sec. zone! Ha-ray!

Way to go Chuck! :cheers: You've really got that combo dialed in.

I gotta get my junk put together and join in the fun.

Talk to you later.

1/8 ET = 7.837

1/4 ET = 12.424
1/4 MPH = 106.82

This was with the pipes capped up and a slightly taller, grippier tire, which makes me think that there may be a fuel delivery problem. I've made some changes to the fuel system and am looking forward to giving it another try.:D

Nice. Did you try a higher RPM launch yet?

I'm planning on hitting T&T on Saturday, as long as it doesn't rain. I'll be trying it with and without the exhaust capped, along with playing around with launch RPM and shift points...and play with the jetting if there's time.

1975 Duster with no front bumper or carpet, steel 14 x 4.5 front and 15 x 8 rear wheels, 360/904, 8.75 rear end, full of fuel and 2 14 x 5.5 rallye wheels with 215/70 tires on them in the trunk. Weight 3042, with driver 3200 pounds. Runs 8.35 in the 1/8 when deep staging at 81 mph and has a 1.78 60' time and a 5.32 330' time. .030 over 360 with a 9.5 to 1 compression ratio with Speed Pro cast pistons, stock crank and rods, factory windage tray, stock J heads with 1.88 and 1.60 valves, Comp Cams 262/270 Extreme Energy hydraylic cam with .462/.470 lift, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with a 600 Holley double-pumper carburetor, Flo-Tech 1 /8 x 3 inch headers with 2 1/2" exhaust with H-pipe crossover and Flowmaster mufflers. Super stock leaf springs and adjustable pinion snubber, Lakewood 90/10 and 50/50 shocks, 904 transmission with the low gear set and a TCI 4200 stall converter. I have a set of Hoosier 29 x 10" slicks mounted on a set of 15 x 8 inch rallye wheels. I stall it to 2400 and shift at 5300 and run it through the 1/8th mile in 2nd gear. It will run a few tenths faster when regular staging it and no extra weight in the trunk and less fuel in the tank.
I wiped the number one intake lobe off of my Comp Cams camshaft. I installed a Mopar purple shaft 284-484" camshaft and lifters. I ran an 8.08 at 83.5 at Rockingham with it. My 60' times were 1.76 and my 330' times were 5.16. Everything else in my combo remains the same.

Update:

See specs higher up in the thread:thumrigh: ( http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showpost.php?p=1544670&postcount=88 )

The new filter seemed to make a difference, here's the best run of the day.

New best run...launch at 2000, shifting at 6000, going through the traps at 6200 to 6300
60' = 1.650
330' = 4.954
1/8 ET = 7.762
1/8 MPH = 87.32
1000' = 10.193
1/4 ET = 12.245
1/4 MPH = 109.68

I did manage to get a 1.63 60 foot out of it, launching at 3000, but it was later in the day. The MPH dropped off throughout the day and at this point, the fuel pressure was bouncing around and you could hear the fuel pump surging...I think it's cavitating trying to pull fuel up the pickup tube in the tank, so I have some re-engineering to do on the fuel system.

Updated combo.

1975 Duster with no front bumper or carpet, steel 14 x 4.5 front and 15 x 8 rear wheels, 360/904, 8.75 rear end with a 3.55 gear and full spool. Weight 2972 with stock 16 gallon tank full of 93 octane. With driver 3150 pounds. Runs 7.95 in the 1/8 at 84 mph and has a 1.62 60' time and a 5.02 330' time [12.60 @104 1/4 mile]. It has a .030 over 360 with a 9.5 to 1 compression ratio with Sealed Power cast pistons, stock crank and rods, factory windage tray, stock J heads with 1.88 and 1.60 valves, Mopar 284 484" camshaft, Crane 1.5 ductile iron rocker arms, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with a 600 Holley double-pumper carburetor, K+N filter and lid, Flo-Tech 1 5/8 x 3 inch headers with 2 1/2" exhaust with H-pipe crossover and Flowmaster mufflers. Super stock leaf springs and adjustable pinion snubber, Lakewood 90/10 and 50/50 shocks, 904 transmission with the low gear set and a TCI 143300 converter and an A+A manual valve body. I have a set of Hoosier 29 x 10" slicks mounted on a set of 15 x 8 inch rallye wheels. I stall it to 2400 and shift at 5800 and run it through the 1/8th mile in 2nd gear.

New to this forum, the information is interesting, was looking for this contact to talk about racing.
I'm 63 years old and just getting into drag racing, bought a 1971 Dudter in 2007 and have been working on it ever since. It has a rebuilt 1973 360 cid small block with a 904 automatic and a 489 rear end with 3.23 gears. I took it to the track twice the first month I had it, best time for me was a 13.72 at 98 mph and my son ran a 13.70 at 102 mph. This was my first time racing in over 40 years and my son's first time ever.
Too much to write about at one time, will keep you posted on what I have had done to the car to date.
I have this 1971 Duster and also a 1967 Dodge Coronet
Will try to post pictures of both car.

Ken! Wonderful news. Keep at it. Nice times for that gear ratio. I'm glad you found this page. The main reason for it's creation was to do just what you were looking for, provide a little help, a little insight and a basic recipe book on how to in many flavors.

Now others will know what others have done to get were there at. Now they can copy or enhance there rides like others have here. This helps take some guess work out of the picture. Though care must be taken not to mix up racers builds and end up with a disaster.

Tried to enter a post the other day but did not show up. I have a 1971 Duster with a 360 cid small block with a 904 automatic, bought it in Sept. 2007, ran it at the local track just the way I bought it. Best time was a 13.70 at 102 mph.
If this thread shows up I will add some more detail.

Blacks 1971 Duster

Posted my up-grades to my 1971 Duster back a while a go.
Best time before up-grades was my son's time of 13.70 E.T. in the 1/4.
Have only had it out twice this year, first time out the best time was a 13.6 at 99 mph,
Second time out the best time was a 12.91 at 104 mph.
Im sure there are better E.T.s to be had with this combo, but it will have to wait until next year.

'73 Duster w/'69 steel 340, X-head motor
Mopar purple stripe 292º/.508"
Holley 4777 on a Torker manifold
4-speed
5.12 8 3/4

12.04 106.5mph

Always had a problem getting off the line with that motor. Didn't figure out 'til too late that the machinist doing the engine work decided all by hisself to ignore my 10.5:1 specification. He took .500" off my brand new TRW pistons, ending up with a bit over 9:1. I was foolish enough to TRUST him and NOT check the motor when I put it together. :eek:ops:

Not that I'm very bright now...but I was dummer younger.

That 292º cam is quite a monster. Sure didn't sound like 108º cam.
