Probably a Dumb 318 Question

-
Have you guys ever seen a real hot 318?or been in one
Yes. 6 pack set up 030 over 318 running the mp engines 11 second package almost to the 10’s. He drive it everyday and everywhere in any weather except snow. He lightened up his Duster and away he went.

That’s awesome that’s the second six pack 318 I’ve heard of and wish I could do it myself haha, has anyone used or heard of the Wolverine blue racer cam if so how is it?

My uncle use to put his built 340 parts on 318 shorts in between 340 builds it was obviously a notice different cause of cid and cr but worked very well with heavily ported TA heads large solid cam etc,, and years later when my cousin brought the 70 Duster back to life we did similar to it and had lot of fun with that car, It's been sitting without and engine for quite a while now, been trying to talk them into getting back on the road. The 318's I've had been more mild, 340 cam 360 heads and intake they ran good.

Ask the guy with the magazine 477 hp 323 he's on here. Post #13.

That’s really cool I want to do something neat like that a surprising 318/323 not some slouch slug of a motor, do you happen to know the username of the 323 guy?

99% certain 477hp 323 was @B3422w5 engine in a White Duster, I know the cam he ran was slightly milder than the article, I asked how was the driveability he didn't have any complaints.

What were some of the specs you went with? Heads cam etc..

you'll notice a trend: closed chamber heads, aftermarket pistons, cam in the 280-ish range and "around" .500 lift.

it's about head flow and compression with a smaller motor. you'll also notice the trend that the power band is narrow and peaky.

Hey there folks, I was just wondering and I’m sure no one has a direct answer but I’m thinking… most people say that there is not much potential in the 318 but I remembered the ford coyote (5.0) is actually quite a small engine yet this engine outputs 460hp 420tq with just a 3.63 bore 3.65 stroke. 12:1 comp ratio on pump gas!!! 55cc head chambers cam around .550 lift. So my question is, is this doable to a 318 if not why? Is it the aftermarket head and piston support holding you back?
Thanks in advance
4 valves per cylinder help.

How do you view peaky ?

I looked at the hp peak numbers of those examples, 500+ rpm above and below the hp peak were fairly flat/close to the peak numbers seems fairly flat to me.

we've had this discussion previously, on this same topic, on this same build. i'm not looking for some ground hog day action over here, thanks.

Thank you for sourcing these I’ll be looking at them throughout the build

I had a 383 for my duster but decided not to do it because the 318 is so much less weight on the front end and so I would rather it handle better and that 383 was a pain in the *** to roll around my dirt back yard on a cherry picker with steel wheels
At one time 383s were common dime a dozen etc. I had helped a guy put one in a 69 Dart, engine plate, fender well headers, whole 9. I'm more of a small car small block guy, to me a B body is too big even though they were considered mid size cars. A nice A body with tight suspension just handles well IMO.
