I envy you Bill!
way to go on getting the dart in paint!
I hope to be doing the same very soon.
In the pictures the clear dont look THAT bad. but like you mentioned. a little cuttin 'n buffin and she will look right as rain.
way to go buddy, happy for you on getting to this big stepping stone in your project!
Thanks Jerrod... I was hoping you'd stop in and comment. It was so awesome to get to paint. Just seeing the color go on.. Of course the downside was, its amazing how you go over and over you car, sanding, blocking, priming, sanding, blocking, priming etc... and once the color goes on you still find stuff you missed.. LOL .. its insane.. but what it is, is what it is now.. I am still very happy with the Buggy.. This was my first attempt at doing a car... I went from knowing nothing about working on cars, to getting where I am now.. with a great amount of help from my friends, and the knowledge I have gained here...
The only things that bummed me out were the clear.. and later after the clear was on, I noticed that the drivers side of the trunk lid appears to have zebra striped a little.. I was all over that car in between color and clear, and saw nothing.. again, its amazing what pops out as you add stuff.. Now my friends did tell me that the flouresent lights wreak havoc as well.. they make things look strange and off... I will wait and see how it looks in the sun... Truth be told, the only fix for that is sanding down the trunk lid and re-spraying it... it all comes down to what I can live with... I dont much feel like redoing the trunk lid.. I am pretty sure once the stripe is on and the cars back together it probably wont catch the eye as much as I might believe it will... On top of that, I know in my heart I did the best I could, I dont want to go backwards... I built this car to have fun with and in.. I think it looks good, I want badly to drive my car again LMAO ..
The orange peel on the other hand, thats gonna need addressed.. I realized that the pics I posted the clear actually looks pretty good.. but if you look at them again, theres things you start to notice.. for instance the drivers side of the car you can see clear reflections,... the passenger side however looks dull still.. the passenger side orange peeled worse.. that was the side the gun was messing up, and thats also the side the heat was escaping from the fastest.. I believe the cold messed that side up.. we actually had to keep the torpedo heater running for the 3rd coat of clear... by that time, the orange peel was not gonna be fixed by trying to flow the clear more... See also the pic below of a close up of the trunk lid and top of the passenger side quarter.. You can clearly see how much orange peel there is... lol.. So... I guess Im not quite done sanding yet.. So, now Monday and Tuesday nights, I will be wet sanding the clear.. Hopefully Wednesday or Thursday it will get buffed, and I will sweat bullets the whole time I dont burn through anywhere while doing all this LOL .. ah the joys of doing a car..
I thank you again for the compliments, and I will get pics up once the scuff and buff is complete... I cant wait for you to get to this stage dude.. I am looking very forward to it.. Its an awesome feeling...
